Inca Trail and Machu Picchu -
Trip - TPT - THE INCA TRAIL, Departure Date - Thursday 23rd August 2012

Hi

Anyone else doing the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu departing UK on 22 August?  Let's talk about it and get to know each other in advance.  Cannot wait!!!!

Re: Hi -
Hi Janie, I don't know how much you've looked into the altitude thing but I suggest (based on my experience on Kili last year) that you take Ibuprofen and Diamox with you.  You can buy Ibuprofen over the counter, but you need to ask your GP for a prescription for Diamox.  I only suffered very mild altitude sickness on Kili and found that taking a couple of Ibuprofen each morning and each evening alleviated the symptoms and I was fine, so I never took the Diamox in the end.  I therefore still have it and will be taking it with me on this trip just in case.  Some people on Kili had worse altitude sickness than I did and needed the Diamox.

Message from Laki -
Emma M Hi everyone. Emma and I are CURRENTLY together to plan. Janie-I suspect we will be sharing a tent. Hope you don't snore!! Look forward to meeting you. My top tips are bring something to tie onto your bag to distinguish it and pack a lunch box. Very useful, T5 might have an executive lounge you can pay a little extra for to meet up in? Otherwise I think there is a bar there. Or swap mobiles? Look forward to meeting you all. I've had a minor set back with a suspected broken toe!! Laki

Hi -

Hi Laki, sorry to hear about your broken toe!  Hope you can still make the trip!!!!  If there's just one bar at T5 then that's easy, tho' we probably still need some way of identifying each other.  If there's more than one bar then that makes it more complicated.  Does anyone know?  I'm not too happy about posting my mobile no in a public forum like this, but it's available on my facebook account to my facebook friends.  I'm happy for anyone on here to send me a friend request on facebook and I'll accept, just mention this trip and this forum and your username on this forum.  You can get a link to my facebook profile by clicking my mugshot just to the left of where you're reading right now!

Misc -

I've ordered some Diamox from the Dr Fox website so should be ok - can't take iboprofen but hopefully paracetamol will do the job :-)

Bad luck re your broken toe, Laki - that must be painful! I've paid the single supplement so think that means I get my own tent (it did last time I went camping with exodus)

From memory, there's a Wetherspoons pub at the top end of T5 (after security) either up the escalator or next to it. There's also a fancy bar at the other end (bit too posh for me though) Agree about not putting mob nos on this forum - I'll go & add my FB link to my profile too.

Wetherspoons -

Wetherspoons sounds good to me. We will pop in at some point to see if we can see you.

Laki, hope your toe gets better in time. We could always try and strap you to an alpaca if it hurts too much and guide it up the mountain :D.

Wetherspoons -
Wetherspoons in T5 it is then.  I'll aim to get there mid-afternoon, say 3 to 4-ish.  I have a guidebook with a purple cover.  I'll put it on the table in front of me.  If anyone else is bringing guidebooks we can put them all on the table so everyone can easily identify our group by the heap of Cuzco/Inca Trail/Machu Picchu guidebooks.  And by the fact that we're all wearing walking boots and have rucksacks and generally look like we're going on an expedition!!!!  Getting a bit excited now!

Wetherspoons -
Just checked & pub is a Wetherspoons but is called the Royal Crowns - just in case that confuses anyone! Will try and pop along too once I've checked in, probably will be after 4 though. 'Afraid I don't have a guidebook as such - I've got mine on my kindle but will look out for everyone else's :-)

Terminal 5 - Pre Checkin Meeting Point -

Hi,

If people were interested in meeting up before check-in I was intending to hang around the Terminal 5 Departures Level - Zone D Internet Facility (Location 39 on the T5 Departures pdf map linked to below) from about 3:15 to 3:45(ish). I'll have a A4 printed sheet with "Exodus - Inca Trail" on my back pack to identify myself.

Look forward to meeting you there and then.

Cheers

Meet up in Cusco -
Laki and I are travelling out a few days earlier so we will meet you guys in Cusco! A lot has been happening since our last installment!

Hi Laki and I have arrived -
Hi Laki and I have arrived at the lively Tika wasi after a long journey! Very beautiful here. This is a long shot but is it possible to pick up something for me at the airport? (I will explain all when u get here) Baby aspirin 80mg for daily use. Would be very grateful! Many thanks! Look forward to seeing you all in a few days ! Emma

Hi Emma -

All packed and ready to go. I cannot wait. I will pick up the aspirin for you. Hope Laki's toe is better, I thought I'd broken mine too last week (drunken gin incident) but it's just bruised so I feel her pain. Hope you two have a fun and lively couple of days and we'll see you Thursday.

Thank you Lisa! Lovely sunny -
Thank you Lisa! Lovely sunny day here our first day, exhausted after arriving via Miami this morning. Spent not of day resting! The rooms are quite chilly so bring plenty of warm clothes - laki doesn't think she has brought enough - so shopping is on our itinerary tomorrow, along with a Peruvian cookery lesson! Have a safe journey Emma
