Ischia

Ischia is a beautiful island with an interesting history and some great towns and beaches. Unfortunately with limited time on this trip - and so much to see in the area - we cannot include a trip to Ishia in the itinerary. There is a ferry service from Naples to Ischia (journey time 45 mins approx). This service is frequent (every hour in high season). There are also summer services only from Positano and Sorrento. In practice it will be difficult/time consuming to reach Ischia on your free day. The local bus service from the hotel goes to Amalfi, but not to Naples. You could arrange a taxi through the hotel (1 hour). With Ischia being the largest island in the area I woud say it warrants more than a day to discover - maybe you will have to have an excuse to go back to the region!
I've heard that Ischia is beautiful and well worth a visit. The booked trip has a fairly packed itinerary, but I was wondering if its feasible to travel to Ischia and back on a free day, or if that would prove a logistical nightmare. Just seems rude not to see it while I'm there, but I suppose its always an excuse to go back!
Any guidance on journey times and options appreciated.
