Just how critical is a waterproof jacket + over trousers?

Trip - TWN - MONT BLANC HIGHLIGHTS, Departure Date - Saturday 26th June 2010

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know just how critical is it to have a waterproof jacket and/or pants for the Mt Blanc Highlights trek?

I ask because I have been travelling for 5months already (and still have 2 months to go) and hence am travelling lightly and do not want to spend a money on gear I will only use once and then have to throw away afterwards.

I did the Inca Trail with nothing but a simiple cotton jumper and a poncho for bad weather and had no problems. Would I be able to manage with just a poncho and layering of shirts should there be bad weather during this tour?

Any advise would be appreciated :)

 Paul

P.S is it possible to hire a jacket?

Waterproofs -

Hi Paul,

You will definitely need to take waterproofs with you on this trip. Our guides advise you carry them at all times (even on a sunny day!) as the weather can be very changeable in the Alps, particulary high in the mountains. You may find the following website useful for hiring some things but I think most likely you will need to buy waterproofs. These don't have to be expensive ones but you do need to have something.

 I hope this help.
