Kilimanjaro - spending money -
Trip - TYW - KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE, Departure Date - Saturday 26th June 2010

Doing kilimanjaro rongai route this summer - can anyone give me a ball park figure of how much money I should take? I know I need money for porters, visa and a couple of lunches.

Also how much should I leave as US dollars and how much should I change to local currency at the airport?

I did this trip last -

I did this trip last October...I took around 140$, and that was ample. I didnt actually change any of it into local currency as the hotel accepted US$ at the bar etc. I took the group flights, and there wasnt actually much time left to wander around the local streets outside the hotel complex...and thats where you need local currency really.

We arrived at about noon, and being tired we checked into the rooms, and spent the afternoon relaxing around the hotel pool getting to know each other over a few beers. There was a welcome meeting in the evening, and we headed off early the next day. Money was only needed for beers that day.

You dont spend a bean on the hike...unless you want to buy beers at one of the campsites...we didnt.

When you get back to the hotel after...its just one evenings beer money...and perhaps lunch before leaving the next day. I didnt buy souvenirs etc as I have been in Africa before and travel a lot. It just depends how much you want to tip the porters really. Some of our group put in 100$ ... I put in around $60.

Was that $140 with or -
Was that $140 with or without the price of the visa?
