Anybody else as daft as me and going on this trip I cant believe I've paid good money to put myself thru ththe agony. training well under way I walk to the shops and back !!! do you think that'll do Be great to hear from fellow travellers
Don't worry. my sentiments exactly. At least you've been walking to the shops.....i've been taking the car.
l look forward to meeting you in Feb.
Me too! Actually can not wait :)
See you in Feb
Hi Vyckie and Pat
I can't believe the amount of extras i have packed. sun cream, tablets, first aid stuff, etc. I'm going to fill my kit bag before i even start putting clothes in.
Really looking forward to meeting up and attempting the climb. AMS does concern me but nothing much can be done about it beforehand.
See you soon
Hi, I'm going with a friend on 22nd February. You guys/gals will be back by then so please post anything that I might find useful.
Hi, Done this in July 2012 with Exodus, fantastic
Pretty easy going until Summit day, absolutely shattered
all staff were first class, food great
Top tip, take a suitcase and put all your stuff in it (including exodus bag), wear your boots on the plane, you leave your case with clean clothes at the hotel.
don't worry about altitude sickness, the guides will keep eye on you and they can spot the signs early.
Please make sure you are reasonably fit as half of my group did not make it ( a few before summit day) as they had admittedly done virtually no training.
p.s take a small nail brush
Hi all, i done the Lemosho route sept 12, you will have a great time,
eat plenty, drink plenty to hopefully prevent ams and enjoy each individual day and dont think about summit day,the guides were fab,Florence was our lead guide and what he didnt know was not worth knowing,he was a true guide, the food was amazing and plenty of it,.
Good tips from Johnynell.suit case, boots and brush,i took a buff with me and used it as a face mask,it does get a little dusty,a good lip balm for the harsh days, and germolene which i used on my lips at night which helped stop them from cracking,my fitness consisted of,swimming twice aweek 64 lenghths a time ( 1 mile )riding my bike, approx twice aweek, kayaking, and walking 3 times aweek, between 4 and 6 hour's with 10 kg in my pack, stamina and will power is the main key to success but the fitter you are the less you have to worry about,i was 15 stone before i started training and when i returned from Killi i was 13.5 stone and i ate like a horse,I am so jelous of you all,i hope these tips help you,
You wont regret a penny spent on your trip, good luck all and keep safe.
Good morning folks,
I shall be joining you in February. I am leaving Heathrow at 20:15 on the 8th, who's with me?
Have people applied for Visa's or are you looking to get one at the airport?regards,Craig
Craig. I fly from Heathrow on the 8th but I thought that I saw 1900 hrs mentioned (although that may be the check-in time). Regarding the Visa, I understand we can get them at the airport over there. Looking forward to meeting you all. At leat the UK weather over the next week or so should prepare us a bit for summit night. Has anyone received an exodus kitbag yet? Also, can anyone suggest an appropriate quantity of US dollars to take? regards
Steve, I emailed my contact at Exodus to double-check the flight times so will let you know what she says. I have read a lot about getting Visa's over there and I haven't encountered a post about having a problem so should be fine.No Kitbag yet. I have bought my own 100L one in case the quality of theirs isn't very good.I was also wondering about the money to take and tipping!
Spoke to Exodus yesterday and they thought that I should have received a kitbag by now, although the Postage to the isle of Wight (where I reside) may take a day or two longer. I'm hopeful to receive one soon so I can have a practice packing. the top tips from Johnynell and Snowy. not long to go now
Hi,i bet you are all buzzing with excitment,i got my visa before i went, just in case of any problems, but most got theirs on arrival,i stil had to fill out a blue form along with all the others,i took 400 us dollars cash plenty of one dollar bills for tipping and a barclay card, but i done the safari too,our group put in 200 dollars each for the mountain crew tips which sounds a lot but they shared 2000 between i think about 57 of them in total, they looked after us so well they deserved every cent,i returned with about 30 dollars, thats after some gifts for family and personal tipping to hotel staff and the odd tip to porters coach and landrover drivers, exodus kit bag is perfect,no point taking a larger one you are only allowed 12kg on the mountain, and they weigh them,i would like to just warn you about a problem we encountered at Kili airport on the way back to nairobi, they tried to charge us 50 dollars each airport tax before they let us on the plane,we refused, mainly because none of us had enough money, and the nearest cash machine was in Arusha an hour away, they just let us through after about 15 min,it might be worth checking with Exodus about tax before you travel,at least then you can stand your ground, hope this helps, anything els i can help with, just message, dont want to take the excitment away though,Snowy.
Snowy. thanks for all the info. Do you know if the hotels have safe deposit box. I would like to take some electronic gadgets for use on the aircraft but dont want to take them on the climb. I would like to leave them at the hotel. Also, I read that the kit allowance is 15kg but you reckon it was 12kg. Should we double check?
Ah yes sorry i ment 15kg,phew panic over ! The hotel we stayed in did have the deposite box facility,i cant comment on others, good plan Craig, that first shower, shave and the beer was the best ever,Ah wow i got butterflys just thinking about you lot going....snowy.
Hi all, I'll be joining ye on this trip! I haven't received my kit bag either but i've one from last year and the quality and size etc is perfect. Looking forward to meeting ye all and having the bit of craic!!
Good morning all,
