Trip - TYE - THE SIMIEN MOUNTAINS TREK, Departure Date - Monday 11th October 2010

Does anybody know if there is a topographical map of the Simien Mountains on sale anywhere?

I looked at Stanfords and could find none .

Simen Mountains Trekking Map. 1.100,000. University of Berne. Detailed topographic map with contours at 100m intervals and hill shading to show relief. Hiking trails are shown and symbols denote spectacular viewpoints etc. Coverage includes the town of Debark and the peak Ras Dejen. On the reverse are photographs and notes on the local geography, flora & fauna. Also, trekking route descriptions, illustrated with vertical profile diagrams.

In 2002 we got a mighty fine A4 photocopy of the route absolutley free from our tour leader Carey (Hi Carey if you're still with the Firm).

This is a great trip, you'll have a good time.

This is a rather late response... anyway, thanks Imran and hi Tim, nice to hear from you again (see I did go to the Simiens after all!)

Long after my return, I can say that the map on sale at Stanfords can also be bought in Debark - it is cheaper and buying there the profit goes to a local business so that's what I'd recommend doing.

I would consider the map a nice reminder of the trek - as a topo map it is virtually useless, detail is too scarce.
