MOV - Cycling Vietnam 18th February 12

Hi Claire, I also recently booked this trip - just got the visa through yesterday so definitely going now!  I'm so excited, although my training has been restricted to spinning classes - it's too cold in N. Ireland to go cycling outside as yet!  Looking forward to meeting you, Fiona.

Hi Fiona.  Good to hear from you. Im also really looking forward to the trip. I havent done any outdoor cycling, Ive also been spinning at the weekend.  Are you taking any malaria tablets?  Ive decided not to, but wondered what everyone else was doing?

 

 

 

Hi Claire, I am taking doxycycline tablets - they are the alternative anti malarial to chloroquine and I find that they are much easier to tolerate. I also get the odd bit of sinusitis at times too so the doxycycline is brilliant for treating that too. I'm just a bit more cautious than most cos I'd a friend who was badly affected by malaria. I've also went for the rabies and typhoid prophylaxis. I finally pulled the bike out of the shed this evening - doing my first outdoor cycle tomorrow - cold, wet and miserable here - can't wait until the warmer temperatures of Vietnam!

Hi Both.  My name is Neil and I joined the trip back at the end of November.  My visa turned up two weeks ago, and I had my jabs at the back end of last year.  For malaria, I took my health advisor's advice and have been prescribed Malarone (atovaquone/proguanil) as we might be going through wooded/jungle type areas. I'll start them one day before we set off cycling.

I'm travelling independently, flying into Bangkok on the Friday morning, and staying on for two weeks after the cycle finishes.  Are you both going as part of the full organised trip?

My name is Sarah.... I'm arriving on Saturday 18th travelling independently (I think the main group arrive on Sunday?). 

I'll be staying in the same hotel that we're staying with Exodus (Huong Sen Hotel), so if anyone is arriving early and fancies meeting up just let me know. I'm also staying on after the trip to explore N Vietnam for a week or so and then start the rest of my travels around SE Asia and S America for the next 6 months!

In terms of jabs etc I've gone the whole hog (rabies, yellow fever, typhoid etc) and will also be taking Malarone.  

Really looking forward to meeting you all and to exploring Vietnam!

Hello all, I'm travelling independently from Belfast and am flying with Singapore airlines. My flight gets in to Saigon about 1hour after the group flight so I'll be making my own way to the hotel (unless the group flight is delayed). Did my first outdoor cycle on Sunday there - freezing but great fun! I'm really looking forward to meeting you all. Have a safe trip and I'll see you soon.

Hi all Can't believe there is a week to go! Looking forward to meeting you all. I'm just doing the package tour but it sounds a great idea travelling around afterwards, what a good way to start your travels.
