Mt Toubkal Climb -
Trip - TMM - MT TOUBKAL CLIMB, Departure Date - Sunday 9th May 2010

Anyone else on for the Mount Toubkal climb in May?

This will be my first trek over 3000m, although I have done other multi-day treks.

Andy.

Mt Toubkal Climb -

Hi Andy, I'm also coming on the trip up Mt Toubkal.

I've not done any trekking before so am really looking forward to it.

Have you been to Morocco before? Any idea what the temperature will be like? I presume bringing warm clothes would be very sensible despite it being the month of May!

It could indeed be quite -

It could indeed be quite cold on the mountain.  The closest weather forecast I've managed to find is the Meteo Blue one - which says that it's still freezing or below at night at around 3,500m altitude. So yes - I'd suggest taking some warm layers, or a down-type jacket.  I'm going for the former.

Snow -

Last year at about this time, exodus emailed guests for this trip - and suggested they hire crampons due to snow on the trail.

I have a pair of Kahtoola Microspikes - which give me pretty good traction on trails with packed or icy snow; but they're not real crampons.  I bought mine from a vendor on ebay.  So I asked Exodus if they would be sufficient.

Tom came back and said "After recently speaking to our local operators, they have told me that we can expect ice to still be present on this trip. Although I think that your microspikes will be fine."

Andy.

Thanks -

Hi Andy, thanks for weather information.

I'll look into the microspikes if I can find them.

Looking forward to it - one week to go.

Ps. Do you think anyone else is going?!

Well.   According to the -

Well.   According to the website, there are 4 spaces left - so with a max of 16, that would make 12. I guess there's a few lurkers reading this thread, but not commenting.

I'm travelling independently - so will be landing at 10:40 PM local time on the AT605 from LYS to RAK.As long as the flight isn't delayed - I should be joining you on the group transfer.

See you all in Marrakech.
