Having just arranged to send off the cheque for the (slightly inflated) final balance for this trip I'd like to make contact and say hello to anyone else booked on. Ive done a few Sherpa treks before but this is my first time with Exodus and to New Zealand. Can't wait...
Hi Steven, I'm about to send off my cheque too, then I'll be counting down the days untill we depart. Everyone I've spoken to says New Zealand is a great place to visit. I have been with Exodus once before, several years ago but it was well organised with a very good leader.
Hello Martin. Thanks for replying. Yes I'm sure with Christmas just before the time will go very fast.
Despite the last reviewer for the trip saying the walking was easy I've started trying to get out on the fells each weekend now (I live in the Lake District) just to make sure Im keeping fit for what I'm sure will be great trip.
Looking at the kit list I see walking poles are recommended. I've not used them before but I think I might try them out. Are they going to be in your kit bag?
Sorry for the delay before replying, its the busy time of year at work for me now (but no where as busy as it should be).
Yes I ought to get in a bit training too, I did manage an eight miler last weekend though. Down here near Bristol it's a little dificult to find a suitable long climb to go with it. I'm just a little bit envious of where you live although I normall get a few days on the fells each year.
I'll probably take a walkng pole if they are recommended, I don't use it much but it is handy to knock stingers out of the way occasionally!
Hello Martin and a Happy New Year to you. We will be there in 2 weeks from now so none of those return to work blues for us though it will be frantic at work with 3 weeks holiday to come.
I havent been out each weekend as planned but motivated myself yesterday in the wind and rain for a short walk up by Ullswater just to try those poles out!
I've booked with ESTA on the Visa waiver programme (couldn't believe you needed to do that for a transit stop but at least I read the joining instructions)though was a bit disappointed I couldn't book a seat on the flight for some reason
I see from the website that there are still 4 places left so I assume there are 7 on the trip at present. I look forward to meeeting you and the others in Auckland 2 weeks today if not before at Heathrow
Happy New Year Steven. Nearly departure date and I'm starting to write lists, read again trip notes and source kit. Have you got water purification tabs!
Your ESTA comment had me going for a while, but I see I'm on a different flight to you. I am booked to travel with Singapore Airlines, leaving T3 at 10.55 on the 14th. So I'll see you and the others at the hotel in the morning.
I've been staying with some friends at a holiday cottage near Swansea for the New Year. We enjoyed a half day walk at Oxwich Bay on Sunday, getting caught in a downpour before leaving the car park and generally blown about and wetted on the coast path. Still, all good practice I suppose.
Looking forward to meeting everyone in Aukland soon,
Hi Martin, I leave Heathrow at 15.35 so I expect you will be first there. Bag almost packed with the tablets thanks. Looks like no one else is going to join in this dialogue (unless this prompts it) but its good to know at least one person before I set off. Look forward to seeing you and the others on Monday morning
Hi Steven, my bedroom looks like a kit explosion at the moment, don't know how its all going to fit in the rucksac? I had a last walk on sunday, went to the Brecons. Spent all day in the mist and only saw two bikers but at least I know that some of my kit is waterproof now. I'm now watching Lord of the Rings DVDs to get a taste of the scenery - looks stunning! See you all there, I'll try to make it down to the hotel lobby when you arrive.
