Just wondered if anyone else had booked to go on this tour departing LHR 3 April 2014. I'm very excited although slightly nervous so would be good to hear from anyone else who has booked this tour.
I am booked to go on the same trip along with my husband Roger and our friend Huw. We are very excited and a bit nervous as well. We are just in the process of setting about getting visa's - not started yet but about to. I've been trying to figure out the best clothes to take to stay covered in respect of protocol but also trying not to be overwhelmed by the heat. Looking forward to an experience of a lifetime.
All the best,
Thank you so much for replying, I was starting to think that I was going on my own :o) I'm going to sort out my visa over the next week or so. I paid the balance yesterday and they gave me the hotels which (providing they don't change at the last minute) we will be staying in. A couple have same day laundry service which will be helpful I'm sure. I look forward to meeting you on the 3rd.
Yes, good to link up and look forward to meeting you too. Perhaps a few more of our fellow travellers will have made contact by then too.
Hi Amanda and Diana,
I'm also going on this trip, after doing a solo trip to Sri Lanka last year which was amazing. I really can't wait & look forward to meeting you both on the trip! I hear there are about 9 of us booked on now.
I've not done my visa yet & really must get my vaccinations sorted - I left it too late for Sri Lanka last year, so want to get my act together this time as I'm pretty sure India won't be as clean as Sri Lanka was!!
Looking forward to meeting you too. We submitted our visa applications last week via the private agency that checks them - I don't know if it is just me but it took many attempts to get it just right. I also need to sort out vaccinations. This trip is going to be quite an experience and I still can't quite believe that I am doing it....
I have had my vaccinations but my aim for this week is to get my photos done and then sort out my visa. I then need to start looking into what clothes to take. It is coming round really quick, less than two months to go now!!!
I'm very excited - and I'm sure that this is going to be a trip of a lifetime.
Looking forward to meeting you too.
I know, it's crazy! But I have only just booked so it seems strange to me that I'm going on holiday in a couple of months - normally I book a long way in advance!
I'm sure it will be brilliant - lots of colours, smells, crowds and amazing sights. Definitely the trip of a lifetime! I really hope we see Tiger in Rathambore national park, that would really make the trip.
With Sri Lanka a few of us who had been chatting on here met up before the flight in Costa coffee in Heathrow airport, so we could do that this time if you were both interested?
Claire, what a fantastic idea to meet up before the flight - definitely count me in.
I always book holidays a long time in advance too - but how exciting to book and know that you are going away in a few months.
Hopefully the next two months will go very fast.
Chat to you again soon
It would be lovely to meet up before the flight. Let's sort out a time with place details and we'll be there. I realised today that I'm actually a bit freaked out at the prospect of going on this trip - in the best possible way of course. Looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing the experience,
I am about to book for the 12th April if that is the one you are all going on and will also be travelling solo. I did Nepal on my own last year and worried loads beforehand but loved it when I got there. I'm in Shropshire but if you decide to meet up I would also love to know who is going :-)
We have our visa's now so that is a relief as it was a bit tricky making sure that all of the information that was required was as it should be. We have been watching a dvd called The Story of India which is a higtorical documentary type thing by Michael Wood which goes back over 7,000 years which will help us get more of a perspective on what we see. Feeling very privileged to be going on this holiday. Looking forward to meeting everybody.
Thanks for the tips about the she-pee and the skirts or dresses. I have been pondering them points because on the one hand it's important to drink plenty but then that generates other kinds of issues. I am getting so excited about this trip!! Will say hello to Chetan if he is our guide.
How's it going? Not long to go now..... Just starting to think about the trip in more detail and wondered how much spending money I shoud be budgeting for - any ideas?
Jipsand - thank you for the tips, I have a sheewee (guess its the same thing!) and I have practiced lots so hoping to have it down to a fine art by the time I go.
Claire - I have been told that it is quite cheap out there so I was thinking of about 50-70 pounds a day. What do you think?
Diana - I am starting to get very excited too about the trip.
My walking sandles arrived yesterday - hideous but I am told they will be a godsend. I think I am fairly organised I just need to get a few tops with 3/4 length sleeves. There is a review from last month that says it's not as warm as we think it might be so worth taking a couple of fleeces I think.
Any more thoughts on meeting up before the flight?? Claire as you have done this before - do you want to suggest a time and place?
Can't wait to meet you all and can't believe that it is coming round so quickly now.
I've bought two packets of wet wipes and then got wondering if it will be enough, trying to work out the frequency of needing them and multiplying by the number of days. I know this is going to be an incredible experience when I find myself making calculations that have never occured to me before. I would have thought that money for food would be fairly minimal but I like to buy things along the way and that will be what uses up my funds. I was thinking of bringing about £500. As for clothes, I've decided that the main thing is to wear cotton and to cover up appropriately, all in all I think it will just involve a rake around my wardrobe. I'm going onto amazon to find out about buysing some shewee's.
Not long to go now.
