My wife and I have just booked this trip, it'd be good to hear from fellow travellers
My partner Russ and I have booked on this trip. We haven't been to Jordan or Egypt before so really looking forward to it. We are flying out on Thursday 7th, ahead of the group, as we want to see Jerash and a few other places not on the itinerary.
It's good to hear from some fellow travellers. Like Russ and you, Zoe and I are on our first trip to Jordan and Eygpt and looking forward to it.
Also booked on to this trip and like you guys first trip to the area and also my first trip with Exodus. Really looking forward to it and seeing some amazing sites. Have been thumbing through the guide books in anticipation!
Good to hear from another traveller, I think there is only 1 space left on trip, so presumably 11 are taken?
Am starting to worry about the temperatures, it was about 23 degrees in Hampshire at the weekend and I was quite warm
Can I ask which injections you are getting - I don't really know which ones to get?
Regarding injections - we've both had Diptheria, Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A and Thyphoid. Don't think we need anything else. We did purchase some water purification tablets (as advised by the guy in the Nomad shop) - just incase we need them. We're only taking a 'one season' sleeping bag (the two season is far too big to fit in our luggage!) - just hope it won't be too cold!! Glad to hear we've heard from another traveller - where are the others?
Thanks for info on vaccinations - will need to check out what one's we've had. I'd forgotten about the whole clean water thing so will have to remember to take some purification tablets.
TBH - I wasn't going to bother taking a sleeping bag, I thought the weight and bulk of it wouldn't justify the use I'd get out of it, I'm sure there will be some blankets or something around, otherwise I'll just wear a few layers, I think we are only camping for 2 nights anyway (from memory)
Matt - just to echo Yvonne, I've had the same list of injections.
Re: the sleeping bags - that's really useful, thanks both, as I have been wondering what to do and really didn't want to pack a three season one into my rucksack! I'm sure I read somewhere that the camps also do have blankets and thin matresses. I am going to go with a 1 season sleeping bag I already have and layers.
Do either of you know if we need proper walking boots? Or will substantial walking type trainers be ok?
I did ask someone (at Exodus) about shoes and he thought trainers would be adequate. I think our only big climb is Mt. Sinai and some canyon. I'm not taking any walking boots - just ordinary trainers and sandals, so hope they will be suitable!!
Great - thanks Yvonne. Was thinking on similar lines. 8 weeks to go!
Just been reading your posts. Im Shirley and traveling with a friend called Angela. We are both from different parts of Devon. Angela and I went trekking in Napal some years ago, since then Ang has traveled to various destinations. Its our first trip to Jordan or Egypt and getting excited now. Very interested in all of your comments, we have had same vaccinations and like you hoping that a lite wt sleeping bag will do. Glad trainers will do wasnt sure to start with.
Hi everyone, can I just ask what travel insurance you've chosen.
Great to hear from you. We've got an annual travel insurance (multi trip) with the AA so I'm afraid we're not much help in answering your question. I expect Exodus have some sort of insurance available otherwise it's a matter of getting totally confused with the deals on the internet!!
Not long to go to the trip, really looking forward to it. Looks like it's pretty hot at the moment in Amman, Aqaba and Cairo.
Thanks for your reply, will have to make a decision soon. Not long to go. Looking forward meeting everyone.
Anyone know what currency to take - Jordanian, Eygptian or just USD?
We're taking Jordanian dinars and Egyptian pounds, hadn't considered US dollars. I think you can only use the currency in that particular country. Yvonne
Shirley - Hi, good to hear from more of the group. I ended up going with the Exodus insurance as it just seemed easier although I am sure it might not have been the best deal!
Yvonne - did you find a good deal on the local currency? When I spoke to Exodus they said to take sterling or USD and change my money while over there, but I am a bit loathe to do that in case it's not quite as easy to change it over there and don't want to be worrying about finding a bank etc as soon as we arrive!
To be honest haven't got the currency yet so don't know what the deal will be! Usually compare the Bank, Post Office and a local travel agency. I think there will probably be 'hole in the walls' in Amman, ?Petra, Aqaba, ?Luxor and Cairo but anything inbetween I presume will be rather remote. I expect some hotels may change currency but again I don't know what to expect. Maybe we should consider taking some US$? Yvonne
Thanks Yvonne. Thinking I will look at taking some in local currency and then rest in sterling so all bases covered.
Going to check the Post Office etc at lunchtime to see if you have to pre-order it or whether they hold it in stock - knowing me I always leave these things to the last minute!
Got my money from post office, they have to order in Jordanian things (forgotten what they are called). I think (from memory) the trip notes said to allow c $150 for meals, $100 for tips and then whatever else you might need cash for.
I've gone with mainly Eygptian, a few jordanian and some dollars, which are always useful and accepted just about anywhere
