Petra & Wadi Rum, first time with Exodus

I'm also booked on this trip and started a thread just a few days before you posted this. I'm really looking forward to it.

I noticed that if you read the reviews of people who had previously been on this trip, there are alot of tips and advice. This may help alittle.

Best thing I think is get in plenty of practice, the weather should be alot cooler by then so not so intense whilst cycling.

I'm booked on the 20th Nov dept too (see my thread with Raquelle for total confusion over dept dates!) and also looking forward to my first Exodus trip - and first cycling holiday!  Just the tonic for a rainy UK autumn and I'm hoping to get out on my bike a couple of times this w/end. Are you a seasoned cyclist? I'm more of a keen amateur but love travelling and trekking - so seeing Jordan by bike looks amazing.

No I am not a seasoned cyclist, but fancied something a bit different and always wanted to go to Jordan and especially visit Petra. I have been to Egypt five times and loved the country and the people.  I am going on a diving holiday on 10th September with friends, back to Egypt and the weather will be about 37 degrees and lovely warm water.

I have done one practise ride so far, I only got my bike about 2 months ago. Planning on going out on bank holiday Monday, if it stops raining. At least now I know one person on the trip.

Hi Chris, I'm also going on the 20th November trip - looking forward to it! I've never been to the Middle East before but I did Vietnam by Bike with Exodus 2 years ago, loved it, and one of the guys on that trip recommended Jordan. Best piece of advice I got before my last trip was to bring a gel saddle cover. And I'm told not to stick my head into the Dead Sea without goggles - really stings the eyes otherwise. I'm stuck in the city during the week so haven't been doing much cycling but will start doing some spinning sessions a few times a week to prepare myself. How was the diving holiday? Have you been to the Red Sea before? Sandra

Hi Sandra, Diving holiday was good thanks, four days of diving and three days of relaxing. This was my 5th trip to the Red Sea, it is so good for diving and easy to get to. Thanks for the tips, somebody already mentioned about a gel saddle so I have already got one. I will pack some goggles for the Dead Sea. I also work in the city, but commute in each day, so too dark to ride during the week. I am running a 10k this weekend so recent activity has been training for this. But we still have 7 more weeks to get ready. At least the weather in November should be a bit cooler than Egypt, very pleasant for cycling. Chris

Hi fellow travellers. So who else is going on this trip? I also commute to London during the week, but I've been getting out into the Kent countryside each w/end (rain or shine!) and it's been stunning. I'm working on upping the mileage, and there are plenty of hills, so hopefully I'll be able to tackle Jordan without too much difficulty? Time will tell...! Just trying to figure out what type of clothing we'll need for cycling in terms of weather... can't quite figure out how cool/hot it will be ... any tips welcome. Hi Sarah & Sandra. Are you on the Royal Jordanian flight (RJ112) from Heathrow terminal 3 on Saturday 20th November. Seems like there are only 4 of us on this flight, the others arrive separately. Hope the training is going well. It was a cracking day on Sunday but cold, manaeged another 20k ride. I am only managing one a week, but this will have to do. Not long to go now. Chris

Hi Sandra and Chris I'm on a BMI flight (BD913) from Heathrow Terminal 1 @ 12.50 so it looks like there's different flights. So, I guess I'll meet up with you all in Amman. Exciting times! I've only been managing once a week (24k) but quite hilly which helps! I'd say I've got an average level of fitness, but nothing to give Chris Hoy anything to worry about...! ;D Went to the Exodus presentation re Jordan a couple of weeks back - some great photography, and it looks like an awesome place. Hi guys, Glad to hear the diving went well, Chris. Five trips to the Red Sea is a pretty good endorsement - looking forward to trying the less adventurous snorkelling off the glass-bottomed boat! I'm on the same BMI flight out of Heathrow as Sarah - BMI have a connection from Dublin so I can see why they booked me on that one. Haven't been getting out on the bike as much as I'd like but downloaded the Dublin marathon route tonight with the plan to cycle it twice over the weekend - similar distances to what we'll be doing. (I don't think it'll be too strenuous unless they make us cycle all the way from bottom to top of Mt Nebo!). Just downloaded the Indiana Jones theme tune onto my Ipod to get me in the mood for Wadi Rum. Talk soon, Sandra
