Am now booked on Atlas Descent for 10 April 2011. Are you?
Hi Rich, I am booked on this trip too, along with a couple of other people that tried to get away at xmas and got beaten by the snow :(
so really looking forward to this now, and hopefully some sunny weather when we get there !
See you there then Nigel - am taking an extra day or two either side of the trip for some beachaction, so get there on the Saturday.
Learnt something yesterday re travel insurance - Morocco is classed as Europe not 'rest or world' so saved about £25. Just in case you or anyone else has yet to get a policy.
Might get a rain shower or two but Sun and warmth is guaranteed, surely?
hiya richard and Nigel.
I'm thinking about doing this trip later in the year. How would you have copied with a slow cyclist on the trip...would it have slowed the rest of the trip down?
Do it! We were 12 riders- some fast some not so, it didnt matter, we may have been spread out over several minutes but more often than not it was due to punctures rather than speed. What I would focus on more than lack of speed if I was you, is maximising your confidence in off road riding before you go. I have ridden off road for many years but have never come accross rides like we did in Morocco; long long decents over v rough terrain with switch back corners and boulders to contend with. Obviously the more confidence a rider has the more they enjoy it and perhaps the faster they go! More importantly greater confidence and technical ability means you are much less likely to come off and hurt yourself. The tour leader was superb as were the local crew. The bikes were fine too, wouldnt recommend taking your own. I booked my own flights which I would definitely recommend; the savings enabled me to have two extra days on the beach. Hope I havent put you off - whilst Exodus grades the trip as 'challenging' I think, I was still surprised by the rough terrain. ooh and its not all decent, there are ups too! Im glad to answer any other questions, just holler.
Thank you so much for the information! I'm torn betwen this trip, the other Morrocco trip and the Biking in Bosnia September departure. ....in fact i've been eyeing up quite a number but those are the current favourites.
Your enthusiasm doesn't put me off at all! ....could you tell me who you booked your flights with? I was slightly disappointed not to get to see Marrakesh but after today's news i guess that can only be a good thing!
exodus uses the moroccan airline as a way of supporting the local businesses, but they are not direct flights. in my case exodus were about £170 more than easyjet and ryanair who both fly to Agadir direct. had to sort my own transport to/from Agadir airport though, which involved a haggle amongst a gaggle of locals and a choice of vintage taxis. Some even came with seatbelts.
Had also wanted to go to Marrakesh, but having done this trip am less keen. I think the hassle from locals preying on western spending money may be a bit too much in Marrakesh. The Moroccan people were great, unless they were begging or scamming. Cant blame them, all things considered.
