I'm flying on the 8th October and going up the Rongai route on the 9th, so not sure if we're on the same trip?
What day do you start your climb?
I leave the uk on Tues 5th Oct, so it looks as though I will be just a few days in front of you. Not really sure what to expect :-) but am really looking forward to it.
I am going to Killy on 5th sep, I've had a posting since May with no replies. Would also love to get in contact with others on trip and find out who they are and what they are doing for prep. I've managed to get in contact with another and we're meeting up this weekend to climb the welsh 15. In 2 weeks time off to Mont Blanc for some altitude training. What have you been doing
Thanks for this. I too would like to hear what other people are doing as preparation for the climb. You sound as if you have been doing loads!! :-)
Much of my prep has been the dead practical stuff... getting used to carrying a rucksack, finding the right layers of clothes and I have started getting my way around some of the local munros that are here in Scotland. (added bonus that we do not need to travel far to reach one lol) and I have been doing some longer day walks too. The dogs are really loving it :-)
It has also been recommended to me to do a night walk and so, am checking that out too.
I think that the other most important thing is to have is the belief that I will achieve it..
What has prompted you to do the climb?
am doing Killy as it seamed a good challange after completing my round of Munros (along with other reasons). I too stay in Scotland. Off to Mont Blanc in a weeks time pre altitude training! Altitude sickness is my greatest consern, have you considered how you'll cope with it? Hi there again.... How was Mont Blanc? Yep, I am also a bit concerned re the altitude and we are starting to do a bit more walking and having the determination to get to the top of some of the hills!! Am also not rushing things but doing it slowly. I Have been reading about diamox but my gp was singularly unhelpful so will make an appointment to see one of the other docs :-)
Have you any idea how many are in your party? I see that there are 4 places left for the one that I am on but do not know what the max number is....
Hi Fiona, just back from Mont Blanc, its the hardest climb I've done, even after completeing all the munros. learnt a lot from trip, took Ginkgo Biloba (herbal pills) for altitude seams to work. Where are you in Scotland. I am now planning to be out every 2 weeks untill I go to killy. how your training going.
Well done!! I suppose that altitude sickness is the great unknown on this trip... thanks for the tip of herbal alternative. Will go and see what its like... I have just been plodding along with munros and general walking, realise that I will need to up it a bit as time is drawing near and so, like you intend to be out at the weekends...stay in sunny Perthshire...which is not so sunny at the moment :-). I,ve been trying to get to the top of Schiehallion but keep getting stopped due to the windy weather!! I have been lent a book on Kili by Henry Stedman.. really interesting read.
There is a lot of us 'Kili Trekers' on this site trying to contact others in they group. I've be in touch with most of you traveling to Kili in Aug, Sep and Oct. As there are a couple of us going to North wales to climb Snowdon on Sat 14 Aug, arriving the friday night and camping out. Sunday will look at Tryfan another lovely walk/climb. Therefore I would love to get as many Kili Trekers together to do some walking and talking. What a great idea!! We would have loved to have joined you but that weekend we will be heading towards Ben Nevis with a side stop of Ben Buachaille Etvive mor on the way back home.
This weekend I have helped to move my son from the 4th floor of one flat to the 3rd floor of another (not the same block and no lifts!!) and stripping wall paper. Does that count towards a cardio vascular work out? lol!!
