suitcase vs rucksack -
Trip - AOC - DISCOVER THAILAND, LAOS & CAMBODIA, Departure Date - Friday 30th March 2012
exodus have said they would prefer I bring a rucksack and not a suitcase but it seems unnecessary when the holiday is all hotels and travel is by air/bus/boat plus I'd have thought it's harder to protect souvenirs from damage . On the otherhand I dont want to be moaned at!

Suitcase v rucksack -
Exodus never moan! They'll just smile gently as you try and manoevre a large, rectangular solid object through the early mornings, on local transport, on and off boats etc etc. Why not compromise and take a soft bag (with small wheels?) rather than a rucksack which you perhaps might not use again? I use one and it works well. As for souvenirs, buy late in the trip and wrap them in your underwear .....

I did trip AOC a year and a half ago with a wheeled holdall bag and had no problems.  The majority of the group used either wheeled holdalls or kit bags and I can't remember anyone taking a rucksack for their main luggage!  I think the problem is that large, hard shell suitcases are quite hard to stack up in limited space on boats and minibuses, so as long as you avoid one of those you should be ok!
