Hi everyone, I have just booked myself on this trip. It may be a year away, but I'm sure time will fly!
I suppose this is very early to open a topic for this trip, but if anyone else is coming on it, it would be good to hear from you!
Hi Jenna, I have spent the afternoon researching this trip or AOI Classic Vietnam and Angkor. Still undecided. This time of year seems to be best and its a good idea to be away at Christmas! Are you getting Visas before you go?
Let you know when i get round to booking.
Nice to hear from you,
I'll be getting the visa for Vietnam before I go but i think we can get the others on arrival. It looks like an amazing trip with so much to do, luckily we are able to take extra time off around Christmas so i can take a whole month off for this trip!
December appears to be the driest time of the year to go as well which will be nice, but I think it will still be very hot!
Just 3 months to go now, I have my visa for Vietnam now too. Anyone out there on the forums joining this trip? (i hear the trip is now fully booked!)
Hello we are also on this trip. Just about to sort out our Vietnam visas - was it relatively straight forward and did you use the postal or call in system?
Gill and Rob
Hi Gill and Rob,
Yes it was very straight forward, i used the postal system. I emailed them to get the lastest price for the embassy, and you can down load a form from the wesbite which you then post to them along with a cheque, passport and 2 photos (to thier London embassy office). As long as you read it carefully for the relevent tourist info it's pretty simple! took about a week for them to return my passport with the visa in it.
looking forward to it ... just a few months now.
I have been granted a visa but will be collecting it at the airport in Hanoi. It seemed to be quite straight forward to do it that way especially as I did not want to be without my passport, as I have only just come back from France. Here's hoping it works well.
Thanks for all your advice - sent off our application and just awaiting return of passport with visas. Is anyone else flying out Emirates via Dubai?
Where are you going from, Gill? I'm going from Heathrow with Malaysia Airlines, via Kuala Lumpur. Emirates is a very good airline - food quite decent. I've never been with Malaysia, but I'm told that they are quite good
We are flying Emirates to Dubai from London Gatwick on 1 December, staying two nights in Dubai to have a look around. We arrive in Bangkok the same day as everyone else - just hope they link us all up at the airport!
I hope the flooding in Bangkok subsides by the time we depart. I have emailed exodus to check it is still going ahead.
Keep an eye on the FCO web site for Thailand, Jenna. They say it is all right for the airport in Bankok.
Yes good idea.
Pam are you taking the flights booked by Exodus? I am also going with Malaysia airlines from Heathrow via Kuala Lumpur, flight MH003 is that the one you are on?
Yes, Jenna, that's the one I'm booked on, but as I don't live in London, I'm having to travel the day before and stay in a hotel over night. I've done that before and it's a relaxed way of getting there. See you three weeks tomorrow - hopefully!
I only live just outside London, but I think as the flight is so early I'll get a hotel the night before as well. Saves from getting up at 2am or something silly!!! I also did that on my last trip. Previously on our budget/backpacking trips we'd travel to the airport the night before and try and sleep in the airport departures lounge! Not very comfortable...
Yes - see you then! It's so close now...
Is anyone interested in meeting up at Heathrow beforehand (e.g. checking in together)?
By the way Exodus emailed me back about the flooding and said everything was still going ahead, and there's an announcement in the News section too... so fingers crossed.
oops just re-read the flight times and it's later than I thought (I had it in my mind as taking off at 7am for some reason!
Looking forward to meeting you all. Exodus have told us that with regard to Bangkok, they did make some changes to trips a couple of weeks ago due to the flooding, but all is back to normal and we shouldn't have any problems.
They also told us there are 18 of us booked on the trip consisting of: - 11 female & 7 male. Ages are one person mid 20's, six people in their 50's, nine 60's and two 70's. There are four people travelling solo and the rest in couples or pairs of friends.
Hopefully, (and in spite of any strike action) we will all meet up on time in Bangkok!
Mick & Ellie
