These boots are made for walking -
Trip - AVP - ICELANDIC HIGHLIGHTS, Departure Date - Sunday 16th August 2009
Clarification please.  Walking boots are recommended, but feedback indicates that there is not a lot of walking, so how essential are they?  My experience of hillwalking includes Yosemite, New Zealand, Scotland, Greece and Germany.  Also, are there any optional extras which involve walking?

Hi Frank,There isn't a huge amount of walking on this trip as the focus is more on seeing the amazing geological features in Iceland. Due to the nature of these sites, it's often necessary to walk a little way to get to them, for example there's a 1-2 hour hike to the Eldborg crater, although this is the longest walk on the trip. The terrain is varied but not challenging, however we recommend walking boots to ensure people have footwear that's up to the job. They are not 100% essential but something along these lines, or walking trainers are the best bet,  and ankle support is obviously a good idea on uneven ground. In response to your other query, the optional extras do not involve walking however we have two walking-specific trips to Iceland, Iceland Walking Explorer and Iceland Volcano Hike for those that do want to see the country on foot.

I hope that helps,many thanksTom
