Hi Sarah and Steve - namaste!
Looking forward to meeting you - I haven't been much >4000m either. Thought I'd ask my doctor for some diamox (a couple of them have been to the Himalayas) but don't think it's generally recommended and hopefully we won't have to use it.
Training? Just doing normal weekend walks and stuff in the Lakes and Scotland but ever since I booked I've been down with a virus! Anyone going out a bit early as I'm flying the day before from Manchester so it'd be good to meet up. Can't believe I'm going yet, can you? Cheers!
Jane
Hello Jane. Saw your post regarding altitude sickness and gingko. Follow this thread for a discussion/info.

We have used the aspirin/gingko regime every time. Since this post we have also done the Annapurna Circuit on the same regime, with no problems. Enjoy Nepal-it's an amazing place, and we're going back for the 3rd time later this year.
Hi Guys
Don't think that I'm on the same trek as I fly out on 12th March but seem to be in the same boat as everyone else - not been at altitude before - hoping I won't suffer!! Spending time training in the gym or Lakes/Scotland and wondering what kit to take?!
I'm based in Warrington, so if any of you guys want to meet up for a coffee sometime - let me know. If not I hope we all enjoy the trek. Gulp!!! lol

Hi everyone - just found out about this forum. Its nice to hear from others on this trip.
I have never been in this kind of altitude myself and have no special experience with AMS. However I will have with me some diamox (the smallest package contains 100 units!!) so there will probably be plenty for others in the group. From what I have read it also helps to drink a lot of water on the hike to reduce the effects of AMS.
Regarding training, I do some jogging and walking in the mountains nearby.
Really looking forward to this trip!! It's going to be legendary :)
Hi, everybody. I am also booked on this trip, just a month to go. Beginning to get excited about the trip now, just have to motivate myself to get more training in before we go.
I have done the Kilimanjaro trip and did not suffer terribly with altitude sickness but that is no guarantee that I won't suffer on this trip. I have taken ginko biloba for a long time but did not realize it was considered good for altitude so I will continue with the ginko and take plenty of paracetomol just in case.
I think the difference between Kilimanjaro and Everest is that we will spend longer times at altitude than I did on Kilimanjaro, so we will all be in the same boat really. I am sure that we will all be fine on this trip and we can all help one another. I'll keep the horror stories of Kilimanjaro until I meet you all, I wouldn't want to scare you off.
Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Hey All
Not long now! I have just spoken with Joanna at Exodus and she has told me we are able to leave anything we don't want to take on the trek in the hotel in Kathmandu. Our luggage allowance out to Kathmandu is 20kg I think but only 12kg on the internal flight. So at least out city clothes etc... don't need to be incuded in that 12kg.
She's just returned from Kathmandu and she says it's really hot :)
Look forward to meeting you all soon
Sarah

Hey - it would be cool to hear from anyone else booked onto this trip. I understand there are 10 or 11 of us so far. Anyone been to this kind of altitude before? If so any advice? Have been over 4000m twice with no ill effects but nowhere near as high as Everest Base Camp! Am trying to train (mainly CV on a x-trainer) and hill walking in the Brecon Beacons but would be grateful for any other advice (especially from anyone who has taken either diamox or gingko biloba to combat the effects of altitude).
Am really excited about this trip - look forward to meeting you all
Sarah
