Trip - TNT - EVEREST BASE CAMP, Departure Date - Saturday 10th November 2012

Hi All

We're looking forward to our trip & would like to hear from other folk on how preparations are going.

We're currently trying to get a Snowdonia peak or two in each weekend to improve fitness levels - particularly coz I'd really like to get up Kala Pattar.

Hi Tim and Nia,

Terry and Angie, here...looks like we'll be joining you for a little walk in the country! We are REALLY looking forward to going. We've had it booked for 15 months now...and can't believe it is so close.

We live in Worcestershire and mountains are not so easily accessible, so we have just been upping the walking and cycling...getting the mileage into our legs. We are close to the Malvern hills and that walk is a good workout if done at a speed-march pace!! I work offshore and can't get out to do "proper" walking when I'm away, so make do with the static bike and stepper. Angie and I think that we're in pretty good shape and will be okay...let's hope we aren't being too naive!! :)

The only thing that worries us is the effects of the altitude and there's nothing really that we can do to train for that. Are you considering taking Diamox? We are going to see our doctor in a couple of weeks to discuss it.

Anyway, better get on with some work (I'm offshore at the moment). Hope to hear from you soon...and look forwarde to meeting you in 8 weeks time.

 Take care,

Terry & Angie.

Hi Terry + Angie

Good to hear from you - sounds like you're pretty serious about the fitness side of things. Re the diamox, we took some to the Annapurna BC trip last year, but didn't use it. I felt that the Exodus trip plan meant that our party's natural acclimatisation worked pretty well & we're hoping for the same again. We saw one or two people in a bad way on the trail, but they'd been attempting to go up & down in just 2-3 days.

Looking fwd to meeting you.

Tim + Nia

p.s. Found this amazing panorama of the view from Kala Pattar:

Hi again...

We aren't particularly serious about the fitness thing...just trying to avoid any embarrassment, really. Don't want to be puffing and blowing too much on the trail. A relaxed and chilled pace will do us just fine. We won't be racing anyone!! :)

Good to hear about your previous experience with Exodus and the diamox. We'll be taking it with us as a precuation...hopefully there'll be no need to use it.

The photographs on the site you linked are superb. Looking forward to getting some similar pictures into our own cameras...though not 360's!! Won't be long now!! The excitement is mounting by the minute.

Have you heard any details of the flight timings yet? We are looking to try and book our car into long term parking but don't really know quite where to be and when. I think I will need to give Exodus a bell.

Take care,

T & A
