Trip - TYA - MT KENYA ASCENT, Departure Date - Saturday 5th February 2011

Just signed up today, anyone else out there going?  I think there are 10 of us in total.  I am hoping I am fit enough and that you haven't all been climbing tons of mountains over the festive period.

Would be good to meet a few of you online before we go, might have a few kit questions for you all.

should be amazing -

Hi, I’m really looking forward to this trip, should be amazing.  The only mountains I did over Christmas were Food Mountains, I bagged loads of dessert :)  Having read the trip notes think maybe thermal underwear sounds like a good idea.  R u a mountain expert ?

Not a mountain expert -

Hi there Martin

No defintiely not a mountain expert - I keep fit with cycling to work but I haven't been that high on a mountain before.  Looking forward to a bit of animal spotting on the way, I have never seen african wildlife before so anything is a bonus.  Definitely thermals, definitely walking poles and definitely ear plugs for the snoring (not me!)

good idea -

Hi Felicity,

Ear plugs would be a very good idea.  I regret to say I’ve been told I snore on occasion :(  Went to the gym tonight, third time this week, I’m knackered.  Think maybe I’m going to find this trip hard work.  I hope the group don’t want to run up the mountain, I would much prefer a gentle stroll up, with plenty of little mini breaks along the way.  Joke:  What did one mountain say to the other mountain?......Lets meet in the valley, sorry.  Departure 3 weeks tomorrow, how exciting, have you been to Ellis Brigham yet?

Had my jabs the other day - ouch! -

So you are a joke lover Martin - hope you have a good range for 7 days of trekking.  Realised all my jabs were out of date last week so was stabbed numerous times on Weds - ouch.  Just need to get hold of the Malarials and I am set.  I think we are all going to find this trip hard work, I haven't been much over 4000 before so I have no idea how I will cope with the altitude.

2 weeks today!

Felicity

Doors to automatic, prepare for take off -

Jambo, how’s it going, are you nearly ready?  Think I’m just about sorted; got my fistful of dollars and ready to go where eagles dare,  or something.  Did both Ellis Brigham and Snow & Rock at the weekend, think maybe I kind of like the shopping a bit too much.   Can’t wait to escape my desk and enjoy some magic mountain moments, should be fun.
