Hi Gill, I can highly recommend this tour, I did it in July/August 2008.
The highlights for me were cruising around Halong bay with the sun on my back whilst taking in the beautiful scenery, learning about the culture and seeing all the cultural sites in Hue was particularly amazing, walking around Hoi An as it's such a beautiful town and learning about all the Cu Chi tunnels.
There is plenty of free time! You can choose to visit museums, get some clothes made, have a relaxing facial/massage or whatever takes your fancy at the very reasonable spa's or you can look something up in your guide book to go visit.
It's a good time to visit Vietnam before it becomes too touristy, it's still very cheap and the people are so friendly and helpful. I can guarantee you will have a fabulous time if you decide to go ahead and book.
anyone been on the Vietnam trip and can advise on whether anti-malaria tablets are needed?
I want to avoid unwanted extra costs, but don't really fancy chancing malaria if it is a risk either!
Hi there...............just got back from vietnam. I think you should take tablets Malaria is in vietnam and there are lots of mosquitos in the mekong delta especially at night. Go to boots, they may advise. I had tablets from the doctor......£15 perscription and £19 course of tablets. My wife got hers from Boots, no perscription needed £ 19 for a course, checked with the doctor who said her tablets where ok. Also take DEET mosquito spray 50 or 100 strength keeps most of the little horrors away.
thanks very much for that advice. Was going to err on the side of caution and take anyway if I couldn't find any other info.
and the deet we take is usually the strength which melts watch-straps.....
