Trip - AAV - VENEZUELA & THE LOST WORLD, Departure Date - Friday 20th May 2011
I'm thinking about doing this trip in May, and am wondering if you've had any trouble doing the Angel Fall by boat and hike part on past May departures due to the dry season?  Also for the first night of the trip, do you use a hotel in Caracas, or one out by the airport, since it leaves by air to Merida the next day?

Hi Jill,Thanks for your -

Hi Jill,

Thanks for your enquiry about the trip. Although we do state in trip notes that during the dry season it may not be possible to reach Angel Falls and we can never guarantee water levels in the river, all May departures of this trip have been able to visit the falls as planned for at least the past 5 years.

At the start of the trip, we use a hotel close to Caracas airport rather than in the city itself - this makes it much easier to return to the airport the following day as it is quite a long round trip from the airport up to the capital.

Regards,

Tim Fearn (Americas product manager)

Okay thanks, couple more questions.  I tried to book on the May departure last year, but it was cancelled...will the May depature be running this year?  How far in advance do you guarantee a departure?  Also, I would be joining in Venezuela, what time is the group flight out of Venezuela on the last day...or what time is the earliest I could book a flight that day and be sure we were back at the airport?  Also, if I had an extra day on either the beginning or end of the trip, is Caracas , and the ariport, and the road from the airport to Caracas, really as dangerous as the US State Department website makes it sound?  Thanks for any information.

Dear Jill,

thanks for your enquiry.

Unfortunately it is hard for us to predict whether the May departure will run at this stage, as we have 2 bookings at the moment and we usually need 8 clients to guarantee the trip, although it is at our discretion to occasionally confirm trips below minimum numbers where possible.

If we haven't reached the minimum number, we usually make our final decision 2 months before departure.

The flight we use for this departure departs Caracas on 3rd June at 18:50hrs.

We normally follow the FCO advice and I would suggest you check the following link for further details about safety and security in Caracas: http://ukinvenezuela.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/travel-advice/venezuela

If you are travelling independantly, you should make sure that you book your transfers with an authorised taxi company.

I hope this helps but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further queries.

Kind Regards

Daniela
