Trip - AOG - THAI INDOCHINA GRAND TOUR, Departure Date - Sunday 13th December 2009
am going to S.E. Asia for five weeks in December, AOG. It will be hot most places, but I am constantly seeing references to no shorts or skimpy tops. Is it okay to wear shorts, tank tops, or not? I am 66 but normally do wear shorts. I realize we need to cove rup in certain sites out of respect.
Shorts are fine except when - 11th Nov 2009 - 5:24pm
Shorts are fine except when visiting temples/palaces where one should cover up, for everywhere else on this trip there is no specific dress code.

Hi Jill. I have travelled in Thailand before (and other Asian countries) and I did find Thai women to be modest and skirt lengths tended to be knee length or longer - unless things have changed over the last few years. Not sure about the other countries. I also think locals tend to cover up to keep the sun off. I tend to cover up a lot as I have found that when visiting more traditional rural communites you can draw attention to yourself or be treated with less respect but maybe I err on the side of caution as I am not a size 10 either!! Those 'zip off' trouser/shorts might solve your problem and I usually carry a sarong and a light shirt in my rucksack to cover all eventualities! Look forward to meeting you- we will be joining the group in Bangkok.
