I just booked to go on the AIC Northern India trip (starting 15 November 2013) - so excited! Would love to see who else is going on the trip and say hello!
I'm going!! I booked this trip on impulse back in March and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm still in the the vaccination, visa app., what to wear planning stages but I'm definitely ready to go. It will be nice to meet you in due course...
All the best
Hi Claire and Deborah
I have booked this trip to India on 14th Nov and can't wait to go! I have wanted to go for ages and decided that I can't wait for anyone else to be able to go with me so I have treated myself for my birthday - life's too short to keep putting things off.
Need to check vacs., malaria course, etc but this is all part of the build up!
This is my first solo trip but I am looking forward to it.
My birthday is 1st decemebr just after we get back so I will be celebrating with the family but just treating myself beforehand! Also going to Krakow 2nd to 5th November with friends so a busy month for me! Sorting out visa next week. The soting out any injections :( and malaria course. So looking forward to it though.
is this the trip i am booked on going thursday 14 nov 2013 from london heathrow
arriving delhi friday 15 nov 2013,
That's the one. Looking forward to it. Have you been on one of these trips before?
thank heavens for that was getting confused, not very hard, never been on trip like this before, wanted to go to india for some time and thought this was best way to start, at end of trip i hope to go travellling round india, just booked jabs trying to sort out how best to do visa, travel insurance and house insurance ,o my head hurts
Getting closer now, just 8 more weeks. getting very excited. Injections organised, getting malaria tablets, sorted travel insurance and visa. I'm trying not to wish the days away but time is moving very fast anyway - will be here before we know it!
See you all soon
yes its getting closer,i have most things in hand just have to wait to apply for visa near departure date as i am continuing on in india, and visa starts from date of issue not trip date, told its no problem but a bit scary, have bought a shoulder wallet,go 616 from amazon also fits round waist, seams good. told hard to find in india, now looking for camera with aa batteries any camera buffs out there,or any tips people like to share
...I also am getting a bit excited about seeing India, a first time for me. Decided it was not a good idea to go by myself!
Forgot the necessity to get a Visa but found doing it through an agency for a fee well worth it.
Never been on a trip with Exodus and was thrilled to find they do solo trips. Have been on holiday ages ago with "Solos" that I still have fond memories of.
Sorry, sent last message before I had finished it!!
Getting close now, very excited; injections done, insurance done, malaria course ordered on internet, list almost ticked off for items needed - just in case! Going to get visa from India house in Manchester next week then almost done. Trying to decide clothes I need. Any advice?
I think we need to cover knees and shoulders so am going for cotton trousers and casual shirts and blouses and a fleece top for cool nights/mornings. Going to try to be sensible when packing - I usually pack too much and don't wear everything! I'm getting a soft travel case and taking a rucksack for carrying my day-to-day stuff. It's like a military operation!!!!
Any tips from anyone else? Any must haves? Michele
Well just got final instructions so suddenly becomes very real now. Items list nearly ticked off - need to get padlock/chain for luggage on train and make sure I have copies of all my documents but apart from that I am ready to go. Woohoo!!! Is everyone else as stupidly excited as me?
yes sounds like a good mixed group; should be a great trip! I am also wondering how much to budget daily - we get breakfast every day and the trip notes say allow £13-15 a day for lunch and dinner at reasonable priced places plus any extras and pressies etc. The first hotel in Jaipur is the Mahal Khandela Hotel- looks quite nice - I'm not expecting Hilton/Ritz luxury but it looks OK. As long as the beds are comfy and there is a good shower that's all I need! I've just got back from 2 days in London so am a bit shattered! Must have walked miles! Going to Krakow on 2nd November for 4 days so by the time I get back from India I think I may sleep for a week. Can't wait to meet everyone.
Hi everyone, just checking in again. Have so much to do before going away:)
Am not that excited yet, but am looking forward to the trip.
Met up with someone who has travelled to India many times. The one piece of advice he gave that has really sunk in is to be careful not to eat fresh fruit or veggies. Keep to cooked stuff. I think I can pass on tummy troubles!
Thanx for the tips in regard to earplugs, padlocks, copies of all documents, budget for food each day.... The list is endless. I feel by the time I get to going on this trip I will need to recover from all the pre-planning!
I had my photos done at SnappyHappy. The on-line visa application is a bit of a nightmare (what occupation is your mother and father in!!!!). But after printing and posting it off to the agency, and receiving it back+visa I will now stop complaining.
Modest dress is most likely the best way to go (in my opinion) as Indian society seems very conservative and women there do not, from what I have gleaned, have the same freedom/rights we have here. British men would not bat an eyelid with half the stuff women wear in the summer but these same clothes in India could be interpreted as very suggestive.
just a though on fruit, i will take a small knife or buy one there and wash peel all fruit, is it ok to take mobile phone to india, think i will try buy charger there any idea, o yes will take some stomach medicine,it will all fall in place fingers crossed
Hi everyone on the highlights of Northern India trip. Just over a week to go! Very excited but a little bit nervous as well!!!!
Very busy in the next few days - got to get a bike chain and lock for luggage on the train, decide what I am taking - need to be minimalist with packing which I find difficult as I always pack too much. Just got back today from 3 busy days in Krakow, in work Thursday/Friday, driving to Oxford and back this weekend - think I should have booked a more relaxing holiday to recover but hey-ho I can catch up on my sleep later - maybe early next year????
Can't wait to meet everyone; I am sure we will have a great time.
See you all next week.
Good Afternoon Everyone
So excited ... shall be packing my bag this weekend so that I can be sure I have everything. Been stressing a bit about what clothes to take as I was speaking to some friends who said it was cold when they went last year but it was Christmas time.
Claire, are you booked into the Hotel Swati Deluxe for the night of the 14th? Not sure what time your flight arrives but I'll be taken to the hotel early afternoon so I have the afternoon and evening available for some exploring if you'd like to join me?
Looking forward to meeting everyone else at the airport on the 15th.
Well the time is here, feeling a bit nervous. See you all Friday - may even see some of you at Heathrow tomorrow.
India here we come!
