My name is David and I'm going on this trip with my daughter Anastasia.
I am going to Killy on 5th Sep, I've had a posting since May too with no replies. Would also love to get in contact with others on trip and find out who they are and what they are doing for prep. I've managed to get in contact with another and we're meeting up this weekend to climb the welsh 15. In 2 weeks time off to Mont Blanc for some altitude training. What have you been doing
Our preparation is mainly lots of walks around where we live in Surrey - not too many inclines but we have gone up Box Hill. We could end up being 'under-cooked' but we're going on a 17-mile training trek on the 10th of July run by a guy who has done both Meru and Kili so we'll get some idea of where we stand in fitness terms.
I am planning to get quite mountain fit, going out in hills ever 2nd weekend, but still have conserns over altitude, doing Meru then Killy is going to help, exodus have a good hit rate for getting up there. How are you planing to tackle the altitude? Been told about Diamox which you can get from your doctor or there is Ginkgo Biloba which is a herbal remerdy
Hi, you should try and get up to the lakes, or Wales to do some long walks and wild camping. I am planning a trip late July in lakes to do the 4 3000ft peak, includes some night walking and wild camping.
Just thought I'd say hi as I was passing through! It's Lizzie from the hike a couple of weeks ago. I hope you are getting on ok with the training. I was hoping to on the next Surrey walk, but can't now. I hope to get at least one long walk in before I go, though. Can't believe it is only a month to go - it seemed ages away when I booked it at Christmas!
There is a lot of us 'Kili Trekers' on this site trying to contact others in they group. I've be in touch with most of you traveling to Kili in Aug, Sep and Oct. As there are a couple of us going to North wales to climb Snowdon on Sat 14 Aug, arriving the friday night and camping out. Sunday will look at Tryfan another lovely walk/climb. Therefore I would love to get as many Kili Trekers together to do some walking and talking. If you are insterested e-mail me on firstname.lastname@example.org I think it would be great to get everyone together and discuss 'Kili'
Hear from you Jim
Jim:- we're leaving on Sat. the 14th so we won't be joining you, but should be able to give you some info. about what the trip was like since you leave about a week after we return.
Lizzie:- we're going on the training walk on the 7th. I know you leave on the 28th, so if I'm near a computer on the day we return (the 27th), I might put in a post about our experiences.
Hi good luck with your trip, hear from you on your return
Posting this on our way back at Kilimanjaro airport. Enormously enjoyable trip with 4 other great people. All 6 successfully summitted Kilimanjaro- so Lizzie if I can do it so can you!
Jim, you sound as if you've done loads more training than we did - again I also managed to get to the top of Meru, but beware, no-one told me that there's some scrambling over rocks (unlike the Rongai Kili route which is more or less straight trekking) !!
Thanks for the message. Setting off tomorrow lunchtime. Looking forward to it, but still a little bit nervous. I can believe it is actually here! Glad you had a great time and were all successful!
Hi Dave, well done you must feel great, climbing ok for me on mt Meru, did you see photos on club site www.cioch.co.uk
Lizzie wish you all the best, am off a week this saturday
All the best
