Hi, yes just booked this, saw the TV series on Yellowstone and looked stunning. Also I have done 2 weeks hiking and camping in the Alps and Atlas mountains and really enjoyed those trips. Are you on the group flight? I am probably going to fly with BA via Chicago to get loyalty miles. Should be really good, although there are some long drives, plenty of music needed! However when I went independently to Grand Canyon, Sequoia and Yosemite 10 years ago we drove and it was not too bad, could always look forward to the next burger!
I saw that series too - it was amazing photography. I haven't been on an Exodus walking trip before so I'm hoping I'll be fit enough. I've done a couple of their discoverer trips, and they really do involve a lot of driving! At least once we're in the park it shouldn't be too bad.
I don't think I'm on the group flights on the way out there, something to do with timings. No doubt we'll all meet in the hotel though.
Now just got to work out what to pack and how to fit all my camera stuff in my hand luggage!
Based on my previous walking trips I'd recommend taking:
Just one month to go! I have been reading about the weather in Yellowstone, because it is over 2000m up it can get very cold at night at any time of the year. I have experienced this effect in Nepal, warm and sunny during the day and then when we reached a lodge at over 2000m it was absolutely freezing when the sun went down. I am probably going to take my down vest, should have room for it as thermarests are provided.
amazing how quickly this has come round! Must read the kit list and work out what I need to squeeze in my very small bag.
Anyone else joining us???
Feeling a lot more organised now, with a new back pack that will hopefully be more comfortable than my old one. Apart from a sleeping bag, is there any other camping gear we need? Will have to check. Have fleeces & thermals, as well as waterproofs and shorts - so all weather conditions covered, just need to get everything in the case!
In case anyone is reading this who hasn't got their visa waiver sorted PLEASE do it before travelling! We transferred through the US to Costa Rica last year and had a couple of people turned away at Heathrow because they hadn't got the documents. It was an expensive mistake for them.
Not on the Group flight, so will see you all in a week's time!
I take a compressible pillow and lightweight mug when camping. I think I'll start packing soon, taking a duffel bag.
I have got my visa waiver authorised and printed out the proof. Also I got one of these prepaid cards from Travelex for taking money, rather not carry too much cash.
