I thought I should start the group and see who else is going on this trip and start to meet people beforehand. :)
Myself and my girlfriend Sarah are also on this trip and starting to get excited now! We won't be on the group flight, as it was easier for us to fly via Amsterdam so I think we get into Hanoi approximately 2 hrs after everyone else and will get a taxi to the hotel.
Look forward to seeing you on the trip!
Andrew & Sarah
Great to hear from you Andrew! Looking forward to meeting you guys on the trip. I'm getting excited too! Got my jabs sorted last week, and visa to Vietnam on the way, so I'm getting all set.
I'm hoping everyone else logs on so we can all say hello before we meet on the trip! I'm travelling solo for this one.
See you in about a month,
Also, of course its Saignon/Ho Chi Minh City we are flying too - not Hanoi. I always get them mixed up!
Up-to-date with jabs from previous trips - are you taking malaria tablets and if so, which type? I have a nurses appointment to see what she says, but will take doxycyclin if anything as have taken them before with no side effects.
I'm not sure about malaria tablets yet. I think doxycycline is probably the one I end up taking. definitely want to avoid side effects.
Have you guys travelled with exodus before?
Not travelled with Exodus before - done a couple of trips with the Adventure Company, but generally organise our own. Had a bit of a stressful trip to China last year, was hard trying to make yourself understood/buy things (especially food!) so decided we would go on an organised trip this time. A lot of the things we are seeing this time will be better with a guide as well I think.
How about yourself?
This is my 2nd trip with Exodus. I did Peru (the Amazon and Inca Trail) a couple of years ago and loved it! They really do this well and I'm looking forward to this trip. It takes the stress out of figuring out what you are doing next and leaves you to just enjoy yourself.
I think our trip is almost full so should be a good size group.
Got an appointment with the nurse on Thu to get my prescription for anti-malarials and then we are all ready to go!
Am getting really excited now, was 35 degrees in HCMC today.
oh I actually didn't realise you can get prescriptions for anti-malarials. I thought you just buy them :)
You're right, not long now, can't believe it! Need to get my butt in gear and start getting money and other bts together. I called to ask today about how much to take but missed them. Will talk tomorrow morning.
I think you have a choice of Malarone which are in the region of £70 from Asda or Doxycycline, which last time I got them on a private prescripion were £13 or so. I choose the cheap option (plus I've taken them before with no side effects) :)
I am presuming there is going to be bank machines everywhere we go, as we both have travel cash cards through TravelEx that you just load up with £s before you go and then you can withdraw money anywhere in the world - saves getting loads of different currencies. Used them in Asia before and they work anywhere with Mastercard machines.
In terms of stuff, I am planning to travel as light as possible in case we have to carry stuff around a lot.
