This is a Moderate (Activity level 3) graded tour with all the ingredients to make this trip of a lifetime a true adventure. The tour encompasses a contrasting array of sights and activities; from the vibrant townships of Buenos Aires to some of the world's most spectacular natural wonders.
The stay on a typical Gaucho ranch is ideal for those with a hands-on attitude and a taste for the countryside. The large scale landforms, from Iguazu Falls, the vast Uyuni Salt Flats, the geyser field at Tatio and the intriguing moonscape of San Pedro de Atacama are havens for geologists, geographers and budding photographers alike. The Ibera Wetlands form a unique habitat for marshland wildlife and birdlife, and our skilled naturalist and birdwatcher will give you the best chance of spotting these water-lovers. In order to reach some of the remote and wilderness locations visited on this trip, we do undertake some long drives. There is one overnight sleeper coach (reclining seats) and the drive over the 'Paso de Jama' is a 10 hour journey approximately. The longer journeys are by private minibus which offer a higher degree of comfort than local transport, and the scenery will not disappoint.
Owing to the remoteness of Uyuni, where we stay in the middle of the Bolivian Puna for two nights, the accommodation and facilities here are basic and both are shared. Although we will not be exhurting ourselves, we do spend time at high altitudes on this trip, venturing to in excess of 5,000m in Uyuni, passing over the 'Paso de Jama' (approx. 4,200m), visiting the Geysers del Tatio (approx. 4,300m), Potosi (approx.4,070m) and La Paz (approx. 3,650m).
Temperatures at these altitudes can fall below zero, and in Uyuni it can get as low as -15°C at night.
Normal group size and age
Min. 6, max. 15 Minimum age 18.
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.
Requires a spirit of adventure and some fitness, as the trip may involve more activities or longer journeys.
Exodus is always looking to improve our current itineraries and to offer something different. With many new trips this year, there is something unique and different to try every year.
Mixed Activities: Activities may range from the ordinary (for example walking, cycling or whitewater rafting) to the damn right extraordinary (including caving, camel riding or canyoning).
Wildlife: Trips may be wholly wildlife focused, or contain an element of wildlife viewing within a less specific itinerary.
Wilderness: Visit the deserts, jungles, plateaux, tundra and mountains of all seven continents, including Antarctica.
Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.
