Spend time with traditional local communities while exploring the highlights of the Ecuadorian Andes

A spectacular itinerary discovering Ecuador's indigenous cultures, whilst staying with local families in villages which are part of a nationwide community-based tourism initiative. We'll get involved in their daily activities and experience the traditional way of life. The trip also takes in some of the major attractions of the highlands of Ecuador, including colonial Quito, a train ride at Ibarra and artistic Cuenca. There is stunning and varied scenery throughout and we visit cloudforest at Mindo and volcanoes at Cotopaxi National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1	Fly to Quito.
Day 2	City tour, to the Yunquilla Community; overnight in homestay.
Day 3	To Mindo Cloudforest.
Day 4	Explore cloudforest; return to Quito.
Day 5	See condors at Parque Condor Rehabilitation Centre; continue to San Clemente for homestay.
Day 6	To Ibarra; train ride and then hike through Afro-Ecuadorian villages; to Tumbabiro.
Day 7	Walk through mountain forest learning about fauna and flora and Indian community. Evening live music around fire.
Day 8	To Otavalo and its famous Saturday market; on to Quito.
Day 9	Visit Cotopaxi N.P.; stay at hacienda.
Day 10	To Isinlivi for daywalk.
Day 11	Another daywalk to Chuchilan; drive to Zumbagua.
Day 12	Visit Tigua village; walking.
Day 13	Visit indigenous Guamote market; homestay in Saraguro.
Day 14	Various activities with community of Saraguro; to Cuenca.
Day 15	Morning free time; to Guayaquil. Depart.
Day 16	Arrive London.
