One of the world's most spectacular road journeys, from the Forbidden City of Lhasa through the Himalaya to Kathmandu

Kumbum stupa, Gyangtse

This route through the Himalaya traverses many high passes, taking us across the stark but spectacular Tibetan Plateau, descending down deep gorges to the lush green valleys of Nepal, and through some of the most amazing scenery to be found anywhere in the world. However the road journey is only part of the experience: we begin with a dramatic flight over the Himalaya, and a visit to Samye Monastery, the oldest foundation in Tibet, before driving up the Lhasa Valley to spend three days exploring the Forbidden City. The Potala and many more of Tibet's important temples and monasteries have now been restored, and the fascinating Buddhist culture combined with the warmth and friendliness of the Tibetan people make this an unforgettable journey.

Nava Kiran Orphanage Kathmandu

After two years in the making March 2006 saw the opening of a new building, and a much larger home for the children living at the Nava Kiran Orphanage. Today is a different story. The children are now fully settled in their new home and all attend local schools or nursery school. They have transformed the gardens into small rice terraces and are producing enough rice each month to keep the kitchen stocked, this in turn frees valuable funds which they are putting towards a biogas dome. Once up and running, and with the help of 9 tonnes of cow dung, the dome will turn waste from the bathrooms into natural gas that can be used for cooking. Almost all trips to Kathmandu can visit the orphanage, and all our Nepali leaders will be happy to pass on up-to-date information.
