Reality Check
This is a cultural trip with a gentle pace. However, Mongolia is underdeveloped in terms of infrastructure and this means that travelling to remote areas can be quite tough. The roads can be quite bumpy at times, especially when in the Gobi Desert, so if you suffer from travel sickness take supplies of your usual remedy.
Accommodation throughout the journey is in comfortable ger camps or hotels, with the exception of the hotel in Arvaikheer which is very basic but unfortunately there are few alternatives. Driving days are generally up to 6 hours, although longer on occasion. Longer driving days are offset by scheduled rest time providing good opportunities to participate in activities such as hiking, horse or camel riding. Scheduled hikes accompanied by tour staff are typically easy walks on flat or undulating terrain, with a maximum duration of around 1-2 hours.
Opportunities for free-time hikes or horse rides will present themselves most evenings from camp and tour staff will arrange these with local guides as required. Taking the opportunity to meet local herders is a high priority and we will do so whenever opportunities present. We aim to get off the 'tourist trail', which is not hard to do in this land of open spaces!
Normal group size and age
Normally 7 to 16, plus leader and appropriate local staff. Minimum age 18.
Icons explained
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
Requires a spirit of adventure and some fitness, as the trip may involve more activities or longer journeys.
Special Interest: For those who have a passion for archaeology, food, flowers, languages or yoga. Solar eclipse departures and specialist conservation holidays are also included.
Wilderness: Visit the deserts, jungles, plateaux, tundra and mountains of all seven continents, including Antarctica.
