A total eclipse of the sun in historic China along with Buddahs, mummies and warriors

Our itinerary not only includes watching the solar eclipse in Hami with snow capped mountains as the backdrop, but also includes sightseeing at China's most famous attractions; the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Summer Palace in Beijing, and the massed ranks of the Terracotta Warriors at Xi'an. We also visit one of the most important Tibetan monasteries outside Tibet and China's largest province Xinjiang Uygur, home to 47 ethnic groups.

Itinerary

Day 1	Fly to Beijing.
Day 2	Arrive Beijing, rest of day at leisure.
Day 3 - 4	Two full days sightseeing in and around China's capital, including the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace and an unforgettable visit to the Great Wall; overnight sleeper train to Xi'an on day four.
Day 5	Visit the famed Terracotta Warriors and Large Wild Goose pagoda. Late afternoon visit traditional Chinese market.
Day 6	Visit the Muslim quarter with its great mosque, and enormous Bell Tower. Afternoon free.
Day 7	Free morning. Afternoon overnight train to Lanzhou.
Day 8 - 9	Transfer to Xiahe; visit Labrang monastery, home to the Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism; also visit a Nyingma Red Hat monastery.
Day 10	Transfer to Lanzhou, stopping off at Yellow River en route. Overnight train to Liuyuan.
Day 11	Drive to Dunhuang.
Day 12	Visit Mogao Caves, home to a thousand Buddhas.
Day 13	Train to Hami, drive to eclipse camp.
Day 14	Eclipse viewing day, overnight train to Turpan.
Day 15	Visit Karez irrigation system referred to as 'the underground Great Wall' and Su Gong Ta Mosque and Emin Minaret.
Day 16	Explore the ruins and mummies of Gaochang city.
Day 17	Drive to Urumuqi and visit the Xinjiang museum with its collection of mummies. Evening flight to Beijing.
Day 18	End Beijing.
