Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples need no introduction as historically fascinating and architecturally impressive cities. Each reveal very different characteristics of Italian culture and boast some delicious traditional dishes, such as the Florentine 'ribollito' or Neapolitan 'scialatelli'. Still, it isnt all about romantic canals, legendary monuments or religious heritage, as the best of Italy is in the family atmosphere of a traditional agriturismo where we enjoy some renowned warm hospitality.

Travelling by train through Italy's beautiful landscapes makes for an unforgettable experience as we can absorb the incredible views of Lake Como, the Apennine Mountains and the stunning Mediterranean coastline.

Optional visits to Capri and Pompeii should not be missed but the included visits to Verona, Pisa and Lucca add to a truly memorable holiday.

What makes this trip responsible?

On this trip we stay in locally-run hotels and eat in small restaurants offering delicious homemade food. We also spend 2 nights in a family-run agriturismo, where picnic lunches on the trip are bought fresh at local stores and markets, helping to support the local economy and ensuring that our clients sample the local delicacies, a highlight of any trip to Italy.

Day 1

Fly to Venice.

Day 2

Morning orientation tour, then free time to wander the narrow streets of this enchanting city.

Day 3

Take the train to Verona and enjoy lunch in the home of Italian opera before continuing by train to Varenna.

Day 4

Scenic boat ride across Lake Como to the picturesque town of Bellagio; return to Varenna.

Day 5

Transfer through Lombardia and Piemonte to the Cinque Terre National Park in Liguria; overnight Levanto.

Day 6

Full day walking through the colourful coastal villages of Cinque Terre N.P.; return to Levanto.

Day 7

Private minibus transfer to Florence with stops at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and optional cycle ride around Lucca's walls.

Day 8

Free day to discover the glamourous sights of Florence.

Day 9

Transfer into Umbria to agriturismo near Assisi for some delicious homemade food.

Day 10

Free day to try a cooking class, horse-riding or self-guided cycling from our traditional base (all optional).

Day 11

Morning transfer to Rome; orientation walk to some of the city's best sights.

Day 12

Free day to explore Rome.

Day 13

Continue by train to the capitvating coastal town of Naples, sitting in the shadow of Mt Vesuvius; orientation walk.

Day 14

Free day to visit Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi or walk up Mt Vesuvius.

Day 15

Fly to London.
