Fantastic holiday in all respects - an excellent  itinerary to some breathtaking sights, nice mix of optional extras and the right amount of time to relax and enjoy a holiday.Guide (Sayeed) was brilliant, knowledgeable and entertaining and very flexible.   Its a good time to see Eygpt as tourism is at an all time low; only myself and partner and 2 others making up our tour and very quiet at most of the places we visited; we went inside the great pyramid and it was just the 4 of us in there!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The day visiting Pyramids is one of the highlights, especially as it was so quiet there where no coachloads pushing there way around.  In Saqaara we had the Stepped, Bent and Red Pyramids all to ourselves, which meant exploring insde them wasnt a squashed or claustrophobic experience as some people have encountered.

Also Valley of the Kings was an far better than expected, I think it doesnt have the same profile as the Pyramids but inside the tombs are fantastic and unlike their name suggests - they are large and wide, high ceilinged with long corridors and all carved and painted in great detail.

What did you think of your group leader?
We where very lucky with Sayeed who was excellent.  Because of the size of our group he was able to be very flexible and adapt trips and visits to get the most out of them, such as being able to see temples at sunrise and sunset, avoiding the stifling midday heat and seeing things when the light really compliments the scenery (Luxor Temple is fantastic around sunset).
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Its well worth visiting the tomb or Tutankamun AFTER you have seen some of the larger tombs, it really puts into perspective that although it was the richest treasure found, as it was undistrubed, its fascinating to see what a small and modest tomb this would have been for such a minor Pharoah - it will make you imagine what a "big" tomb would have been filled with!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
A great itinerary and a great guide really made this holiday... now is definately the time to visit Egypt, before the crowds return in full force.   The full day of snokelling at El Gouna is not to be missed, if you can, see if you can get out for a half day as well as soon as you arrive, the beach there is OK but there are lots of trips out to some amazing reefs.

This trip was outstanding. One of the best I have ever been on. An excellent itinerary and a truly knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour leader (Sayed Mansour) made for a memorable holiday.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Every day was inspiring. Highlights included the amazing Egyptian Archaeological Museum in Cairo which held countless ancient treasures, including many of those from Tutankhamun's tomb, including his instantly-recognisable burial mask. I can strongly recommend the optional Royal Mummies Hall in the museum, which revealed to me just how effective the mummification process was at preserving the pharaohs. The great Giza pyramids were an awe-inspiring sight. I had seen many photographs before visiting these and it really does not prepare you for how visually stunning and large these ancient monuments are in real-life. The Bent and Red Pyramids at Dahshur and the Step Pyramid at Saqqara were no less stunning. Waking up on the Sleeper Train to look out of the window at the Nile in it's early-morning magnificence and the surrounding landscape was also breath-taking. The optional trip to Abu Simbel was also a visual treat - I dare anyone not to be mesmerised by the Great Temple. The felucca ride on the Nile was extremely relaxing - I could have easily spent all day on this - and the islands of Aswan were beautiful and the optional trip to a Nubian village was also memorable. The sunset in Aswan over the nile was breath-taking. All the temples visited were phenomenol, although special mention must go to the optional trip to Dandara on the way to the Red Sea which was by far the most complete and impressive temple - and also gave the group a chance to witness the restoration process. All the tombs visited in the Valley of the Kings were again spectacular, but try and head to the workers tombs/tombs of the nobles if available as an optional trip as the preserved paintings there are even more well-preserved and amazing. The Nile Boat offered some well-earned relaxation and the picturesque El-Gouna resort also allowed the group to unwind before we begrudgingly headed home.

What did you think of your group leader?

Our group leader Sayed Mansour was simply excellent. I was very pleased to see on my return that he received a Highly Commended Leader accolade from Exodus for 2010, which on the basis of my trip he clearly deserved. He had a great knowledge-base and enthusiasm for Egyptology, which brought-to-life every monument and site the group saw. He also had a great sense of humour and was very approachable and enjoyed discussing Egyptian Culture. He was also able to accomodate our small group's request to see optional addition sites, such as the Ramesseum, Medinet Habu and Dendara temple. I cannot praise him enough.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Do go with a sense of humour. Based on my trip it is clear that Egyptians love to laugh and interact with Westerners. You may need a sense of humour too when bartering for gifts and trinkets which will initially be offered at ridiculous prices, and even more so when bartering to use public toilets! The road network in Cairo is crazy - drivers seem to simply ignore the white-lines and drive wherever they please - as a passenger it is quite an experience - but fear not and simply enjoy the experience. The Egyptian Museum and Valley of the Kings do not allow cameras and you either have to leave these in the minibus or check these in at the entrance - this is because they are trying to protect ancient monuments, which is completely understandable. You can buy picture books or postcards in gift shops of all the areas you cannot take photos of. Some temples the tour leader is not able to guide you around as they have strict restrictions in place, and I took a couple of guide books with me so that they would point me to the main areas and sites of interest, which I would strongly recommend. I would recommend the flight option to Abu Simbel, because you essentially gain a free afternoon upon return to Aswan instead of spending the day travelling on a bus. I took the opportunity of visiting the Nubian Museum in Aswan - well worth a visit to see the display dedicated to the saving of monuments from being submerged when Lake Nasser was created. I also took a local boat across to Elephantine island which allowed me to see the temple of Khnum and the Nilometer. Another tip is to go for an early evening drink at the Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor - where Agatha Christie stayed. It was like stepping back in time and was truly memorable. The night entertainment on the Nile Cruise - which included a belly dancer - was also great fun.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I booked this trip prior to the Egyptian Revolution and even though the Foreign and Commonwealth Office had cancelled all travel restrictions by the time my trip took place - April 2011 - I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive about travelling to Egypt so soon after this event. However, I needn't have worried at all. I felt completely safe from the moment I touched down in Cairo until the moment I flew home. The Egyptian people were very warm and welcoming. I would encourage everyone who is still deliberating about travelling to Egypt to deliberate no longer and book a trip. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Great group, guide, and accommodation.  Unfortunately I was overwhelmed by the amount of tourists at the historical sites which rather devalued the experience.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The optional hot air balloon ride over the west bank of Luxor and the optional trip to Abu Simbel.
What did you think of your group leader?

Georges Fahim was an excellent tour guide.  He has a degree in Egyptology (a must have for all guides apparently).  Along with his extensive knowledge on all things Egyptian his advice on how to barter in the markets was invaluable.

He went out of his way to make sure everyone got their different transfers at the end of the trip as a lot of the group were off to different desinations after the holiday.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    1. Buy your currency in Egypt - you get a much better rate.  Taking british pounds is fine.

    2. Along with the usual imodium take travel sickness tablets for the sleeper train and the snorkling trip (there's no point in suffering).

    3. Ear plugs are a MUST!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Try and avoid the busiest part of the tourist season.  I felt like 1 in 100,000.

Don't watch Sex in th City 2 and assume it's some sort of guide to staying in a Muslim Country - It's RUBBISH.

A fantastic trip. The history is almost overwhelming but a great guide and great group of fellow travellers ensured even though our heads were full of gods and Pharaohs we had a great time.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The age and fantastic condition of the temples and tombs is awe inspiring. The skill of the ancient craftsmen is amazing. Abu Simbel and Karnak were the highlight.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our guide, George Samir, made the trip us. His knowledge and enthusiasm for his country brought it alive. Everything ran like clockwork without any apparent effort, the sign of good organization. George even put up with our teasing.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

You get a better exchange rate in Egypt

Be prepared to pay a lot locally for the optional trips which are charged in dollars.

The group must either fly or go by bus to Abu Simbel. You can't  have some go by bus and some by air.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Although the snorkelling over the coral was great there are too many other boats and snorkellers around to take your time and just bob around.

Another great experience with Exodus ticking another must see off my list.  We packed a great deal in in such a short space of time and the varied itinery made it all the more memorable from pyramids, to cruising on the Nile, to exploring temples and bazzars, to snorkelling in the Red Sea.   There is so much to do and some great barganing to be had, especially if you are after a scarf!  However, be wary of the sleeper train, particularly if you suffer at all from motion sickness.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The first sight of the pyramids when you fly into Cairo is not what I expected, but seeing them on foot makes you wonder how on earth they were built by hand.  To have experienced first hand one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World cannot be put into words, nor can the vastness of Tutankhamun's treasures that are in the Cairo Museum or his mummified body in the Valley of the Kings.  Abu Simbel is another must, especially when you see the sun rise.

What did you think of your group leader?
George was our leader and he made the tour all that more enjoyable.  If he didn't know the answer, he always had a few theories (he'll know what that means)!  He joined in everying, even the fancy dress on the Nile cruise and he told us that we were the first group to get him to participate.  He was very knowledgeable and everything worked like clockwork.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Exchange your money in Egypt - you get a better exchange rate. Expect a tummy upset at some stage.  If you already have an Egyptian outfit take it with you for the fancy dress on the Nile cruise, but don't worry if you don't as you will be able to buy on the boat.  Allow plenty of money for tipping, additional purchases, etc - we counted up the additional extras before we went and allowed for all of them, so didn't run out.  Take the plane to Abu Simbel - all of our group did, although one would have prefered to go by coach, so didn't have the option.  Have fun bartering in the bazzars - whatever they start off at you will always be able to get the item at a third of the price or less.  Great for scarves and spices.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We had a great group of 20 plus George and had so much fun I can't wait for my next trip in January!  Well done Exodus.

The egyptian discoverer had the perect mix of history, relaxation and fun. We got to see all the important sites that you would like to visit when going to egypt but we also had spare time to relax and explore on our own, the nile cruise broke up the trip nicely and relaxing and snorkelling in the red sea was the perect relaxing end to the holiday.

Watching the sunrise over the sahara dessert on the way to abu simbel was very specail as was abu simbel its self.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our tour leader Samer was absolubtley amazing, his local and historical knowledge went way beyond what i had expected. He was very proffessioanl whilst being fun and part of the group aswell.....i would say samer really MADE the trip.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
I would reccommed taking the optional abu simbel trip as it really is amazing. We travelled in November and the waether was beautiful, hot and sunny every day but not over bearing, if i was to go back to egypt i would go back at this time of year.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I was a single traveller (24,female,blonde) on this trip and there were 4 other single travellers as well. As a single traveller i really enjoyed the trip and would encourage any other single travellers to go for it.

I had wanted a trip which took in all the main sites of Egypt - the Pyramids, the Nile, Aswan, Luxor - and this was just perfect.   A great mix of historical sites, modern Egypt, optional activities and relaxation.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Going to Abu Simbel was one of the top highlights for me.  I would definitely recommend paying the extra to fly as opposed to spending over four hours on a coach each way.  When we arrived, our coach between the airport and the site broke down.  George and the driver were straight on the phone and another coach appeared lightening fast to pick us up and get us on our way - cannot fault them in the slightest for how that slight issue was dealt with.

The optional excursion to Philae Temple, the Aswan High Dam and the unfinished Obelisk was brilliant.  Philae was one of the most beautiful temples we saw and really should not be missed.  And the engineer in me was fascinated by the dam and monument.

What did you think of your group leader?

George was excellent.  Incredibly knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about Egyptology and the history surrounding the sites we were seeing.  He was never short of a pop quiz or a little anecdote about the key players in Egyptian history.  "We're not entirely sure... but we have two theories!".

He always knew of good local places to eat and where to go to sample the culture, from walking through the local markets to watching the sunset over Luxor Temple from a rooftop bar.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

I had studied the weather and picked October as the temperature range should have been 25-35 degrees throughout the country; however we ended up in the middle of a 45 degree heatwave!  Thankfully there was a constant supply of reasonably priced bottled cold water in each of the buses we used and George was a star at finding the best bits of shade in each of the locations, so the heat was never a big problem.

The dress code is more relaxed than you may think.  The only place we were asked cover up shoulders and knees was at the Citadel in Cairo.  In all the other main tourist destinations, vests and shorts were perfectly acceptable.  That said, I would avoid walking around Luxor in anything too revealing as many of the females in our group had a bit of hassle from incredibly persistent street vendors wanting to sell us horse-carriage rides, boat rides, taxis, felucca trips and anything else you can imagine.  Luxor was the only place where they would not take no for an answer and it became tiresome to the point where we ended up eating in the hotel restaurant in order to avoid dealing with them any more than necessary.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

If you want a tour that will enable you to really experience Egypt and see all the sites, then this is the one for you.  I feel like I really got to experience most of what Egypt had to offer and with a great group and fantastic guide.

Take extra money because there are so many optional excursions and extra bits and pieces you can do.  Six of our group went camel riding next to the pyramids which was an amazing, slightly scary, experience but one not to be missed (ask your guide to organise the camel trip for you to ensure you get a safe, enjoyable ride).

You can tailor the holiday to your own needs as well.  I also went on the hot air balloon (cameras are allowed, regardless of what the notes say), a horse carriage ride and quad biking in the desert, all on the free day in Luxor.  Others in the group spent the day relaxing by the pool, so it really is up to you to spend the time as you prefer.

If you want to see the pyramids before they are completely swallowed up by Giza, go soon.  In fact, stop thinking about it and go now!
