This was our first trip outside Europe and exceeded our expectations in every way, cannot find fault with any aspect.  Extremely good value for money with lots of memorable experiences but also time to relax, reflect and socialise with group members.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Almost every day contained truly memorable experiences - from the Cairo Museum of Antiquities, Pyramids - including going inside, awesome Temples and fabulous sights on the Nile and ofcourse Snorkelling in the Red Sea.
What did you think of your group leader?

ASK FOR GEORGE WHEN PLANNING THIS TRIP.

Georges knowledge of Egypt past and present is limitless, his honesty and humour are a revelation and his organisational skills are honed to perfection.  Nothing is too much trouble and he is keen for us to experience modern Egyptian life aswell as learning about Ancient Egypt.  We count ourselves as very luck to have had George as our Egyptologist/Leader.

    THanks George.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Be aware of the Pyramids Park Hotel buffet, its expensive. Also, the food on the Sleeper Train which is kept warm even though it tasted ok.  It set off stomach problems for both of us!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We enjoyed this trip so much, we intend to do it again in the future.  Even better if we could get George again.  He is a great ambassador for Egypt and for Exodus.  The trip contains a perfect balance of visiting awe-inspiring ancient monuments, learning about Egyptian civilisation (ancient and modern), and relaxation.  We cannot recommend the trip highly enough - we felt extremely well looked after.  The accomodation was generally very comfortable.

The right balance between Egyptian history and experiencing life in modern Egypt, between travelling and staying put, with the promised "quality" accommodation.   True value for money.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Dawn at Abu Simnel (worth the very early start and the expensive flight)

Seeing the beautiful Aswan Bridge as we set sail at 4am!!   This was pure luck, as I awoke with the engines.

A two hour carriage ride around Luxor - not on the itinerary.

What did you think of your group leader?

Fouad was a fantastic tour guide.  He knows so much about the history of his country and managed to sift what he thought we could cope with (there is a real danger of being "templed out" but he kept us going at just the right pace).

He looked after us so well, taking us to good local restaurants and arranging extras (eg the carriage ride, a felucca trip).  He was fun to be with and I feel honoured to have spent time with him.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

If you don't like the heat, go earlier than May.  Take it easy and bring lots of lightweight cover-up clothes.  I had a parasol and coped with the mickey taking in order to be shaded!

Try the (non alcoholic) Florida cocktails in Aswan and on the cruise boat.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

This is a fantastic trip (I am an experienced Exodus traveller).  The hotels really were good quality (although it might depend on which room you were allocated)

I was a little disappointed that the Nile cruise was over in 24 hours - three nights spent moored at either end, only one day actually sailing.  The ime spent actually sailing was a wonderful relaxing experience

Snorkelling in the Red Sea was spoilt in the morning by the crowds - it was easy to lose your tour guide, with constant flippers in your face.  In the afternoon we were taken to a more secluded spot and had a wonderful time swimming and jumping from the boat.

This was my third Exodus trip and they have all been fabulous in very different ways.  This trip was packed full of the most incredible sights, it was like being on a film set!  There is always a worry that seeing something that you have read about or seen so much of on TV may disappoint but Egypt really exceeds any expectations.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The best day by far was the day we went to Abu Simbel.  It is the most incredible site that we visited.  The temples are awe inspiring, breath taking and any other cliche you may think to coin.  That evening some of the group went across to the Nubian island on the Nile and went for a camel ride around the village followed by a meal in one of the houses.  The people were so hospitable and friendly, the food was delicious and all in all it was the most memorable and perfect day.
What did you think of your group leader?
Ramy is quite simply a star!  He is kind, thoughtful and so eager to help.  He went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that everyone on the trip had the best possible time.  He really engaged with the group and his enthusiasm was totally infectious.  He is so knowledgeable and passionate about his country, its history and its people that I was so sad to come home.  He is a legend!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Relax and enjoy!  Take every opportunity to do and see as much as possible in this fabulous country.

Very different from other Exodus tours...but amazing, wonderful to see the ancient and modern side by side.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The statue in Luxor museum, black granite, 4000 years old and perfect.
What did you think of your group leader?
    A real schoolmaster.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take cold cure. And an open mind.(as always!)
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The mimibus journey from the Red sea to Cairo was the most terrible uncomfortable and unhappy-making I have ever been on. We had to set off at 11 am and didn't arrive in our hotel until 7pm. And with ONE stop on the way! In any group of 15 people in Egypt, at any one time, there is going to be at least one person who is ill. The minibus was not the best, the driver wouldn't put our luggage on the roof, so there were limited places to stretch out, and we were only offered one stop. What made it so terrible was that for £50 or so we could have flown back!!! We were trapped on the bus with 4 unwell people and it wasn't even very interesting (the scenery, I mean!) Only the good humour of the group members saved us, and that evaporated after 5 hours.  Exodus, please don't put any more innocent travellers through this ghastly ordeal.

    Exodus Response

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for your review and feedback. I'd just like to confirm that in 2009, our Egyptian Discoverer trip will end in El Gouna by the Red Sea. We will then travel by flight from Hurghada to Cairo and on to London to avoid the long road journey between the Red Sea and Cairo.

    Best regards, Lesley (Trip Manager)

A great way to see the majority of the parts of Egypt that you've heard about and wanted to see!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
For me, going down into a pyramid and seeing the burial chamber. It was dark and dingy and old and amazing!
What did you think of your group leader?
As mentioned in other reviews, George was fantastic and Exodus do very well having him as the leader. Throughout the trip he worked hard to make us understand how amazing it was that the pyramids & temples etc... were all created at all. By the end of the time I did appreciate that. He also worked hard to make sure we felt welcome and saw something of the country.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take some alcohol handwash wherever you go.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
It was a fantastic trip and pretty much what I expected and wanted. The accomodation throughout was good and the selection of activities meant that you were never just in temples. The snorkelling day at the end of the trip is an optional activity which is well worthwhile. Of course, the weather is fabulous too (in October at least).

This was my first Exodus trip, but I doubt it will be my last (I'm already flicking through the brochure again!) I'm so pleased that I took the plunge and booked myself on it, as I learnt so much more about Egypt than I ever could have done if I went by myself, and I was with a really good group of people for 2 weeks.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Although it was only a tiny part of a long day, climbing inside the Red Pyramid was fantastic (bar the 'pyramid legs' that we all suffered with for days afterward!) - it was just amazing to be inside one of the structures that you've seen and read about for so long. My favourite part of the trip was the optional visit to Abu Simbel, which I highly recommend for everyone going on this tour. It really brings home the sheer scale of the works undertaken by the Egyptians (although we all know everything was done by aliens, obviously :P )
What did you think of your group leader?
Basically, George is great. He helped everyone out when they got sick, he offered us uncountable theories for all the Egyptian mysteries, and he organised birthday cake on our last night!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
    1) Take the Abu Simbel trip. 2) Be prepared to feel comfortable enough with your tourmates to talk bowel problems from a very early stage! 3) Enjoy your holiday!

This is one of the best holidays I have ever had.  The location, the guide, my group of fellow travellers all made the trip one of the best travelling experiences I have encountered.  Once again Exodus has produced the goods!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
There were no disappointments.  Cairo, the overnight train, Aswan, Abu Simbel, The Nile Cruise, Luxor and the Red Sea were all wonderful experiences for different reasons.  Everything about Cairo should make it  somewhere I should hate - the noise, pollution, heat, bad driving the shear disorganised chaos of the city that is Cairo, but strangely we all loved it.
What did you think of your group leader?

Without George, this trip would not have been the same.  He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, without being over the top and made Egypt and it's history facinating and engaging.  He was very good a reading the mood of the group, and when we had had enough for one day.  He chose good local restaurants and made good recommendations of how we could structure our day's to best accommodation all the activities on offer and to have time to ourselves and consistantly gave good advise.  We didn't think of him as our guide but as one of the family.  If George isn't offered to guide every Exodus tour then future Exodus travellers will be missing out on a wonderful experience.  He is one of the most genuine, kind and generous people I have every met.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
As with any form of travel, you should go with the flow in Egypt.  There are quite alot of early starts and the trip was towards the end of May, it was very hot, so you must drink lots of water.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I wish I had been able to get to Alexandria as well, but that will have to be for another trip.  But thank you Exodus, once again you have excelled yourself.
