Reality Check
This is very much a cultural trip, looking to explore these two countries steeped in history. To walk up to the sacrificial high places at Petra, you should have a reasonable level of fitness. Your leader will be able to offer you further advice about the walk. However, although it's a tiring day it is well worth the effort. There are a couple of long days of travelling, but it is necessary so that all the sites can be seen in good time. There are plenty of stops to stretch your legs and the scenery you pass definitely makes it worthwhile.
Please also take the weather into consideration; both Jordan and Egypt can get very hot. We try and plan our trips outside of the summer heat; however the areas around the Red Sea can still be very hot in spring and autumn.
This trip has been graded as grade A/B (leisurely/moderate). The comfort level at the hotels and the fitness required to visit the cultural sites means that the majority of this trip is classed as leisurely. However, there are few days which are classed as moderate -where facilities are a basic and the activities (climbing Mt Sinai and visiting the White and Coloured canyon) require a good level of fitness.
Ramadan Please note that the holy month of Ramadan will take place from 01 to 30 August 2011 (dates can shift slightly). This is a time when followers of Islam do not eat or drink between sunrise and sunset. This can sometimes affect the opening hours of certain tourist sites. However, we will ensure that that the itinerary is affected as little as possible if you travel during this period. Food and drink is available to tourists during the day.
Normal group size and age
Normally 6 to 18, plus leaders in Egypt and Jordan and local guides where appropriate. Minimum age 16.
Icons explained
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
In order to provide a more accurate grading system, where a trip falls between two grades we use an intermediate or split grade, for example Leisurely/Moderate. Occasionally, there are optional activities available en route, in this case the optional grade is indicated in brackets, for example Grade Challenging (climb Tough+). Clearly, conditions may differ from region-to-region or month-to-month and as such the information given on these pages is designed to act as a guide only. In all cases you should refer to the respective holiday's Trip Notes for further details.
Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.
