Although I have been to Egypt several times before, this was going to be something different. I had been to Cairo and the Red Sea, but I hadn't had the experience of the other ancient temples and was looking forward to it. It was everything I hoped for and then some. Sayeed, our guide made the trip magical.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I have always wanted to visit Abu Simbel and the additional day trip was worth every penny. We went via coach, which was about 3 hours each way. The coaches had plenty of room, the toilet on board was better than some others we'd had to visit and it was beautiful seeing the sun rise in the middle of the desert. I even got some sleep! The most memorable moment of the whole trip was walking round the bend in the road and having cold shivers going up my spine (in nearly 40'C heat!) as we got our first glimpse of these magnificent monuments.
What did you think of your group leader?
Sayeed was wonderful. He made ancient Egyptian history come alive and although I was a fan before, I have come away even more in awe of the achievements of these amazing people. He was really patient and made sure that everyone was catered for the whole trip.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Definitely do the Abu Simbel trip and we also did the Philae temple/botanical gardens trip, which was lovely and relaxing and totally amazing.

From a safety point of view, make sure you take sanitizing hand spray and use it every time you touch the money. That is where a lot of people end up picking up stomach problems. Also, the Egyptians like to haggle, push your luck, you never know what you will be able to come away with. They will not sell something and make a loss.

Take ear-plugs on the train, with additional food - crisps, chocolate, etc. The sleeper trains aren't bad, but they are noisy and the food is very similar to airplane food!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Enjoy yourselves, Egyptian 4 star is not the same as British/European 4 star, but it is clean and safe and as long as you go with an open mind you will have a wonderful time.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The stars in the night sky over the desert.

The view from our hotel window over Aswan

Geting up early and watching the dawn from the train

    The pyramids.

The paintings in the tombs at the valley of the kings

What did you think of your group leader?
He looked after us very well and helpful and friendly but did tend to go on a bit so we had limited time to actually see the sights.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
It is very easy to become ill in Egypt so be very careful to wash hands and use wipes. Drink only bottled water and eat carefully

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Abu Simbel was magical and was worth the extra money spent to fly in for the day. Another time I would like to revisit and stay in the area to see this wonderful monument when the crowds have dispersed.
What did you think of your group leader?
Sam was incredible, so knowledgeable; providing a real insight into the ancient history of Egypt. He was very clear, explained things well and was a thoroughly nice person to boot.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Collect coins as soon as you can as you will need them for toilet stops, and for general baksheesh (tipping). When shopping in the markets be brutal and barter - they will often start with close to ten times the price that it is worth, they see tourists coming and try it on. Give it a go, as it is very entertaining have a discussion about how much you are willing to pay for goods.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

Remember to have plenty of water. It was a heatwave in mid October and the Valley of the Kings hit 43 degrees - it can get even hotter in other months!

The balloon trip was magical and well worth paying for the optional.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Every time I stepped foot into a temple, burial chamber or museum I was amazed. And we did that every day!
What did you think of your group leader?

Our group leader (Ossama Sharaf) was fantastic. He had an unbelievable wealth of knowledge and was always enthusiastic and friendly.

He also made sure that we were well looked after.  I am a Vegetarian and he personally organised food for me.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be prepared for a bit of a culture shock if you're not used to travelling.  The sleeper train was ok but there was no sleeping involved - too noisy.  If you have your own cabin, don't sleep on the top bunk!

Take the advise of your tour guide - they know better than you and will advise you so that you can experience more and have a better time.

Eat vegetarian - I was the only one on the trip who wasn't unwell.

I went in July - it was very hot but ok if you can deal with it

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would thoroughly recommend this trip.  I had a fantastic time, met some great people and fulfilled a dream I'd had to see the wonders of Egypt since I was young.

A great journey, all what I would expect from Exodus

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The days sailing down the Nile
What did you think of your group leader?

Ahmed (Beckham), excellent.  He was very passionate about everything we done, he knows his stuff very well and he  put it  over to us equally well.

He ran the whole trip with almost military precision.  He was a good time keeper and expected everyone else to do the same, quite rightly.

    Ten out of ten.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

During the time spent on the boat, the obvious thing to do in the evenings is have a drink in the bar with your fellow passengers.

Most of the drinks are extremely expensive the beer at £3.50 is probably the most reasonable.  The absence of drinks on the tables were proof of this.

I guess all the boats down the Nile were the same, so not blaming Exodus for that one.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The trip as Exodus advertises it is leisurely and the accommodation of a high standard. The cabins on the boat were every bit as good as a hotel room.

Pick up on your bargaining skills you'll need them, the Egyptians are born traders but have a great sense of humour to accompany them.  They're cheerful and will put a smile on your face coupled with all their lovely sunshine it makes for a great holiday.

This was my first trip with Exodus and I had an amazing time in Egypt.  The trip exceeded my expectations, especially the accommodations! My room on the boat was huge and lovely and the hotels were surprisingly nice!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I'll never forget this.  I arrived at 9 pm and was picked up at the airport and driven to the hotel about 45 minutes away. We were driving on a main road through Cairo when I looked to my left and was shocked to see the pyramids right there, all lit up.  It was a sight I had wanted to see for years and years and there they were, sitting majestically, right before my eyes.  I just wasn't expecting it.  You imagine them out in the middle of nowhere, not right beside the city.  It was a sight to see and it fulfilled my every dream of one day seeing the glorious pyramids!

What did you think of your group leader?
My dream to become an actress was fulfilled!!  Just kidding, but our tour guide Alex made the tour a lot of fun by explaining Egyptian history to us by having us act it out.  He would give each of us a role and by doing this, I was actually more interested and it made the experience so much more enjoyable.  The entire group really got into it and he kept us laughing and learning at the same time!!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Just go with the flow and leave all your expectations at home and you'll have a wonderful time.  If you expect a 4* hotel and you get a 2*, just let it go.  If the itinerary was changed a little, just let it go.  Things happen and if you let it get to you, you are going to ruin your holiday.

This was my first tour with Exodus and it went smoothly but I've been on tours with people who whine about every little thing they aren't happy with and it just brings the group down.

Enjoy the entire experience and you will have wonderful memories for years to come.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I have to say my favorite part of the tours is the people on them.  It's amazing how a group of strangers come together and before long they are bonded together as if they've known each other for years.  This has been my experience over and over and I know I've made friends who will be in my life for a long time to come.
