A comprehensive journey back in time to the incredible, iconic landmarks built by the ancient egyptians. Every day was filled with awe inspiring sights, and thanks to a great tour guide, history came to life . I learnt so much on 10 days!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The first sight of the pyramids from the bus as we neared the hotel at Giza will stay with me! Everything is impressive, next on my list is the amazing feat of engineering at Abu Simbel , where 2 temples were raised up 60 metres from the edge of the Nile to save them from flooding when they built the Aswan dam to form Lake Nasser.

I will never forget seeing the mummy of  King Tut in situ in his tomb in the valley of the Kings- amazing!

What did you think of your group leader?
Tariq, our groupleader, was a fount of knowledge, passionate about his country and well informed about all aspects of Egyptian life and history. Our group ws very small and we were able to ask as many questions as we wanted.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    DO go to Abu Simbel!

Do go to see the mummies in the Cairo Museum!

Do resist the street traders- they will hassle but most will respond to a polite "NO Thank you! "

Do not bother covering up for the mosque in Cairo, however well you are covered they will still make the females wear a long gown with a hood! Believe me you will be very hot if you have put long sleeves and long trousers on!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Take plenty of memory for your camera- endless photo opportunities!

Although there were a few reported demonstrations in Cairo, we all felt completely safe on the trip and there were plenty of tourist police around for security.

Its a great time to go to Egypt - there are few queues and wandering around the historical sights is very comfortable.

A good overview of the primary tourist sights of Egypt, but, when budgeting for the holiday one must include the costs associated with most of the extra Options (information included in the Trip Notes) as the basic trip does not cover enough of what you need/will want to see. Additionally, one needs to also double the expected costs associated with additional meals that are not included in the tour as our UK Pound just doesnt go very far now. Plus .. do not take US Dollars - just take sterling and convert to Egyptian Pounds, or use one of the many cash points to withdraw mone.  And finally, this is NOT a relaxing holiday. Unfortunately, the Egyptian way is to permit visitors to their country to be constantly accosted for money, the need to sell you some tat, or to have their viewing/photos interrupted to show you something else that you don't want to see/do. The communal handling of tips in no ways stops this (although the Guide does help reduce it a little) and is something you have to expect and to endure. I should point out that this will occur however, or whoever you use, to see Egypt.

all the sights in a whistle stop tour, very well informed guide,  nearly every temple, tomb, obelisk, museum  between cairo + aswan + beyond seen...oh yes and the pyramids + felucca on nile, and camel ride..all done in a week!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

loved the felucca...much better way to travel than the vast nile cruisers that churned past

each day bought a different 'wow'....how did they build these things over 3,000 years ago? how did they carve these in such fantastic detail? has to be seen and some photos need to have the odd person in so you can see the enormous size of the achievements

What did you think of your group leader?

Our tour leader was Fouad who certainly knew his egyptoloy...could tell you everything about any temple, carving, god,etc

one or two in group found him a little arrogant at times butI thought he was ok  Arranged meals in advance, made transitions very easy from place to place, seemed to know everyone and had many 'friends' in every place we went to

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Food on overnight train was not brilliant. If you think you are going to be hungry...take some with you.

I was advised to take a supply of 1dollar bills for tipping...none were needed as Fouad sorted all tipping out

Take plenty of money..only a couple of trips are included all other excursions need to be paid for when over there Once there, you tend to go on most trips as you probably work on assumption you may not go back to egypt again ( or for some time ) so might as well see what you can

Crop trousers are fine for women, pack shorts /bikini-swim wear for hotel swimming pool..no problem in hotel.Take scarf to cover shoulders + head....needed in a few places but not many. Mosquito spray only used on felluca...well we were on the Nile..was only a precaution. Take small bottle of hand hygiene gel ...everyone used this all time. Have loads of tissues for loo paper in pocket all time. Take ear plugs if you are light sleeper...Cairo traffic can be heard if you have a room overlooking main street. Water can be obtained from driver of bus - 3 bottles for 10 Egypt pounds Meals about 70 egypt pounds and then drinks extra eg coke/pepsi =15 egypt poundsTake charger for camera/phone you are in hotels 4 times during week so can recharge no problem.

    Enjoy the time. I did!!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Gaddas hotel in Luxor was grubby and not up to exodus standard. We had a room that had been occupied by smokers ...wasnt worth complaining as only there for one night and hotel was full of wedding guests but it certainly spoilt the memory of Luxor

If you want somewhere that is like home . . . don't go!  If, on the other hand you want to visit a country steeped in history and culture and full of charming, friendly people, then this is for you.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
So many great moments- the dawn breaking on the felucca, a campfire on a beach at the side of the Nile, the pyramids at Saqqara, the overwhelming sadness of Tutankhamun's tomb, the beauty of Tutankhamun's mask, Karnak, Abu Simbel and so the list goes on.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader, Fouad, was great.  He was so informative and made the stories of Egypt and its gods come alive.  He also organised everything without fuss and very discretely.  Good fun too.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
    Go with an open mind.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

I loved this trip and found Egypt to be so much better than people had said it would be.  I didn't find the people selling their goods annoying at all, but if you're not used to people trying desparately hard to make a living it could be hard to cope with.  The people were warm and welcoming and most of the men were charming, not at all as some people here in Britain describe.

I'm hoping to return and see more of this tremendous country.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The Felucca boat trip was superb. The Nile is stunning and gathering round a campfire with the crew singing traditional songs and dancing was a highlight for me.

I strongly recommend the optional trip to Abu Simbel - It is one of the most impressive sights in Egypt. Well worth getting up at 3am for!

What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader Moustafa was an absolute star. Very well informed about the sights and their history. Very well organised, calm and helpful.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
You definitely need a 4 season sleeping bag for the night on the Felucca in December.  Also, make sure your guide explains how to haggle at the souqs (how much to offer initially etc.) so you don't end up overspending.
