Frequently Asked Questions
About Your Trip
No, this wouldn't be feasible as the canoes are designed to be paddled by two people. Each canoe carries its occupants' personal gear plus a share of the communal items (food, cooking equipment, tents etc).
Karol Rogacki - Americas Operations
We use large, two-person open canoes. With a little practice, even novice canoers will soon get the hang of powering and steering the canoe. Your leader will give you some instruction on canoeing techniques.
On most days you can expect to spend between about 6 and 7 hours out on the river but this time includes plenty of rest stops. River and weather conditions will dictate how far you go each day.

You will be camping out in the wilds of the Yukon so there aren't any campsites as such. Your leader will find a suitable spot to camp each night and will generally choose somewhere based on its accessibility. The same areas tend to get used by people canoeing in the Yukon so you may find signs of previous usage such as the ashes from a camp fire. On the majority of night stops there aren't any loos and where there are loos, these will be of the basic variety! The trip is run with the preservation of the environment firmly in mind so all rubbish must be burnt or taken out. The only washing facilities available while canoeing are the river. Please only bring environmentally-friendly, easily biodegradable soap with you. A supply of wetwipes will also be useful. No matter where you camp in the Yukon, you will be surrounded by the peace and beauty of the Canadian wilderness!

What is the food like in the Yukon?
While canoeing, all meals are provided from supplies brought in the canoes. There is nowhere to buy food en route. The leader will ensure that you get plenty to eat both at meal times and with a supply of snacks during the day. You will almost certainly be pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of food that it's possible to create while camping in the wilds!

What kind of clothing is best for North America?
Most useful will be clothing that can be worn in layers; i.e. walking trousers, shorts, light shirts and sweatshirts or jumpers. If you have a choice, a fleece jumper and waterproof jacket are much better than bulky/heavyweight sweaters/ jackets. It will be cold in the evenings in June and September, whilst it can be warm during the day.
