Get right off the beaten track on this challenging trip into Central Asia's mountainous hinterland

Beginning in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent, we take the road northwards over the border to the southern steppe country of Kazakhstan where we are presented with vast swages of rolling grassland that have been home to the nomadic Kazaks for hundreds of years.
We pass through the dramatic scenery of the Zhabagly - Aksu National Park, the last exclave of the wild country in the mountains of South Kazakhstan and the oldest national park in Central Asia. Crossing into Kyrgyzstan, we reach beautiful Lake Issyk-Kul, and pass in the shadow of the dramatically rugged Tien Shan Mountains.
On a homestay we’ll experience the daily life of these mountain people, staying in yurts and riding mountain ponies. We finish in the capital, Bishkek, mostly a modern city but not unattractive.
