We also explore and experience the fascinating living history of the Tibetan Buddhist community in and around the Himalayan foothills of Dharamsala.

We will attend an audience with the Karmapa, go to the opera and have time to enjoy the magnificent scenery of this area. including a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and Pragpur World Heritage Village.

The trip is led by Jeremy Russell, a long-term resident of Dharamsala who works closely with the Tibetan community.

DHARAMSALA & THE DALAI LAMA
Day 1
Depart London.
Day 2
Arrive Amritsar; evening visit to the Golden Temple.
Day 3
Revisit Golden Temple in daylight before driving to Dharamsala. Mcleod Ganj orientation and visit to Dalai Lama's temple.
Day 4
Witness the Dalai Lama teaching the traditional Jataka Tale about one of the Buddha's previous lives.
Day 5
Visits to the temples and museum adjacent to the Dalai Lama's residence.
Day 6
Guided visit to Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Nechung Monastery and the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute.
Day 7
Visit Church of St John in the Wilderness, Viceroy Lord Elgin's memorial, and Tsechokling Monastery.
Day 8
Walk to Dharamkot via Tibetan Children's Village School.
Day 9
From Dharamkot an optional walk to Triund for mountain views.
Day 10
To the Dharamsala Tea Gardens then on to Norbulingka Institute and the Doll Museum.
Day 11
Visit the Norbulingka craft workshops and watch the formal debates at the Dolma Ling Nunnery.
Day 12
Opportunity to hear about Tibetan medicine and consult Tibetan physician and a visit to Nishtha an NGO working with local Indian villagers.
Day 13
To Gyuto Tantric Monastery and a possible audience with the Karmapa.
Day 14
To Taragarh, former country house of rhe erstwhile Kashmir royal family and Tashi Jong Tibetan community.
Day 15
To Sherabling and other monasteries in Bir and nearby nunnery.
Day 16
Return to Mcleod Ganj.
Day 17
Attend event marking the anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising of March 1959; drive to Amritsar for return flight.
Day 18
Fly to London.
