Fabulous holiday. I was most impressed by the variety of the sights and the experiences we had. From cycling through the countryside , to climbing Adams Peak and relaxing on the beach,

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing the dawn from the top of Adam's Peak.  It was well worth the climb.

The Hill Club was fabulous  !  Quite unique.

What did you think of your group leader?

Roshan was very knowledgable about the country including its history and politics.  He created a very positive atmosphere within the group.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take plenty of insect repellant and sun tan lotion.  Travel light since there is a lot of moving on from place to place.

If possible take smart clothes for the Hill Club  - gentlemen need a jacket and tie, which can be borrowed.  Worth  bringing your own tie.  And you need a shirt with a collar.   Dining in the formal dining room is a great experience !

Is there anything else you would like to add?
the hotels were far better than expected.  I could have stayed a lot longer !  It was very hard to come back home  !

This was an excellent trip to get a good overall impression of Sri Lanka. I would certainly go again but with a view to seeing  fewer temples and more wildlife in their natural habitat.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I went on this trip to relax but it was impossible to ignore the many and varied photographic opportunites! There were certain locations that were inspirational such as Kitulgala by the river. The river rafting was a fun experience but most of all I will remember Sri Lanka as one of the friendliest nations I have visited.
What did you think of your group leader?

Sujeewa Rathnayaka was an excellent group leader. He was kind, considerate and always mindful of each individual's needs. His explanations were informative and very interesting.  His constant attention, careful planning and attention to detail made the holiday a great success.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yala National Park could be a great experience but there were too many jeeps kicking up too much dust.

The trip was long and tedious and I felt did not concentrate enough on observing wildlife.

The whole experience could be improved with more knowledgeable drivers keener to impart information than cover great distances in too short a time.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
At the elephant orphanage, Sujan had reserved tables at the restaurant directly above the herd of 50 elephants playing in the river - unforgettable.
What did you think of your group leader?
Sujan was totally professional, his attention to detail and knowledge of his country was first rate. He firmly believed in responsible tourism and putting money into the local community where it is most appreciated.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Do all the optional activities that you possibly can, they were all great fun .
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Our best trip to date, made even more special by the short stay in the Maldives coming back

A good mix of cultural and wildlife experiences. Lots of Buddhas and plenty of birds - a few crocs and great elephant encounters.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The Lion rock fortress at Sigiriya was quite amazing especially the rock paintings. You have to use your imagination to envisage the whole face of the rock covered in paintings and then marvel at the almost impossible problems that the painters must have overcome to complete their task.

Riding on the neck of an elephant was magical - Hero's ears flapped against my legs and I could feel the power of his muscles moving as he carried us along beside a lake. He seemed to appreciate a good scratch behind his ears and really didn't mind me standing on his head to dismount!

What did you think of your group leader?
Sujan was well organised, had a fund of knowledge - both of the history and the wildlife and plants, was approachable and had a good sense of humour. He efficiently sorted out a problem with the initial coach, organising a couple of minibuses and then a replacement coach during a busy day without us missing out on any of the planned programme. He was sensitive to the various needs of the group and always managed to find us a 'good-looking loo' when it was needed.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
A liking for reasonably hot curries would be an advantage. Rice and curry is the staple meal although more western fare was usually available. Try the red and white wine if you must but the local Lion beer is a far better alternative! The walking is easy but a good pair of walking shoes with a good grip is recommended, especially if the paths and rocks are slippery from rain I would imagine.

ok but not as relaxing or as much fun as I hoped. V little contact with Sri Lnkans had I not arranged to meet a friend who retreats to Sri Lnak for the winter I would not have spoken to anyone except the staff of the hotels

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Watching elephants in the river below where we were having lunch, whale watching though I did that with mySri Lankan friend, not with the group
What did you think of your group leader?
Extremely over anxious, but appearred to know his stuff
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you do Adams peak don't rush; it is easily 'doable' in 3-4 hours sitting on the top getting cold waiting for dawn really left some of our party frozen. I was a bit slower so did less sitting around and did not get so cold but was able to easily keep up going down in the light- I had struggled to see my way at night the trail lights cast more shadows than light, I also recovered faster than those who rushed.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Most of the hotels were fine but the Plantation ws filthy - dirty blood stained sheets on the bed.

A varied and highly enjoyable tour of a beautiful lush country.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Watching the shadow of Adams Peak form on the clouds behind the peak.
What did you think of your group leader?
    Good, helpful.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    1. The Adams Peak walk was tough, only 1100m of ascent but >5000 concrete steps. Is this one of the longest staircases in the world? It took 5 days after the hike before I could stride normally. My preparation with
600m of steps twice a week for 6 months wasn't enough preparation. We rushed up in 3hr15min; down in 2hr 15. Would advise taking it more slowly and resting more. It is difficult to gauge how far you have ascended when walking on a well lit staircase surrounded by darkness. There were 2 x WCs about half way up. So if you reach that point in under 2 hrs, you deserve a rest! Take your time and don't rush!
    2. Mosquitoes. Plenty about in Jan/Feb. We did use insect repellant and, at night, permethrin impregnated mosquito nets. We only got one bite each.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Wonderful country. Amazing food. A very varied trip with different things to do and see every day. Enjoyed it a lot.

Had a brilliant time. The leader was superb and the tour all encompassing.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The whole trip was inspirational so much to see and do - still trying to take it all in. Coming down from Lions Rock in a tropical storm soaked to the skin but warm; being brave enough to do white water rafting - only grade 3 but  enough for me! Riding an elephant , seeing crocodiles in Yala, friendly locals waving as we drove past, the excitement of seeing the golden casket in the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy and so much more.
What did you think of your group leader?
Sujan was an excellent leader - very knowledgeable, friendly and kept us in order!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take plenty of loose cotton clothing. There's only one cool night and the hotel offer you hot water bottles. Insects weren't a major problem at least not with 50% Deet insect repellent. Some of the coach journeys are long and winding so take travel sickness tablets if you need them.I changed £160 at the airport and a further £60 in Kandy - that was plenty unless you want to buy jewellery in the gem factory!

Do as many of the optional extras as possible and have fun.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    Go for it
