Travel by private minibus and on foot; 4 days community work in Imlil and Tafedna.
Our Gite in Imlil is comfortable but basic with no en suite rooms but shared flush toilets and showers. The rooms will be dormitory style and you will be sharing with 2-3 people, depending on the size of the group. The Gite is run with environmental issues to the fore and is owned and run by our local project manager so is a highly appropriate place to stay.
Our Riad in Olad Berhil is a beautiful converted palace with character and comfort aplenty. In Essaouira we stay in the wonderful Maison du Sud located in the heart of the medina surrounded by shops and restaurants and a 5 minute walk from the beach. Single rooms are available for both the Riads.
All breakfasts and 2 dinners included.
Our project work could be anything from painting, mixing cement and moving boulders to digging holes. The work will be of a manual nature and a willingness to get your hands (and clothes) dirty is essential.
Please note there is a donation of GBP60 per person to be paid online via the project page for Morocco.
This will go direct to our charity partner Baraka Community Partnerships and be used to purchase materials needed for the project work (please remember to add gift aid). If you would like to bring anything for the villages then please see our project website page for the latest requests from the villagers. Andy will also advise before departure on any last minute additions.
Morocco is a developing country so standards of hygiene and accommodation are not as they are in Europe. Stomach upsets are not uncommon, though often this is just a case of adjusting to different condition. In the mountains, there is a very laid-back atmosphere and it is not in the Berber culture to be punctual so please be prepared for project work to not always start on time.
Normal group size and age
The group will generally be between 7 and 16 people. There will be local drivers. Minimum age 18.
The trip will be lead by Andy Mckee, Founder of Baraka Community Partnerships and long term Exodus leader.
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.
In order to provide a more accurate grading system, where a trip falls between two grades we use an intermediate or split grade, for example Leisurely/Moderate. Occasionally, there are optional activities available en route, in this case the optional grade is indicated in brackets, for example Grade Challenging (climb Tough+). Clearly, conditions may differ from region-to-region or month-to-month and as such the information given on these pages is designed to act as a guide only. In all cases you should refer to the respective holiday's Trip Notes for further details.
Walking & Trekking: Trips are wholly trekking-focused or simply include a significant number of walking days during the itinerary.
Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.
