Long lines of saffron robed monks on their alms round at dawn, the luscious green of Vietnam's paddy fields, the shy smile of school children in Luang Prabang; it's the small day-to-day things that make this an unforgettable trip. Not that the bigger things won't wow you too - Angkor Wat, Bangkok's Grand Palace, the stunning limestone seascape seen from our Halong Bay cruise or the frenetic pace of Saigon.
There's a lot to see in South East Asia, so as they say in Thailand, 'why hurry, why worry'?
What makes this trip responsible?
Tourism can be a real help to local communities, providing income, positive cultural exchanges and a financial incentive to protect their natural environment. Ours is a 'total approach' to responsible tourism, covering everything from the way we plan and operate our trips to the practices of Exodus as a company.
On the drive from Hanoi to Halong bay we stop at the Hong Ngoc Humanity Centre an NGO where disabled children and adults are taught simple skills such as embroidery and woodcarving. This is an incredible success story where people who were once considered burdens are able to support and sustain both their families and themselves. There will be the opportunity to eat for a good cause at either Sala Bai or Green Gecko restaurants in Siem Reap, both of which train under-privileged young Cambodians and provide street children with vocational training and general education to allow them to find a job in the tourism industry.
