Although rated as moderate (due largely to the long drives and poor infrastructure), the trip does not require a great deal of physical fitness. Our accommodation is simple but clean and the facilities do not always work as you might expect them to. In Gambia, the hotels are basic but the best available in the interior. In several places the showers only have cold water, therefore please leave behind your need for western comforts. This also applies to toilet stops - western-style toilets are uncommon in many rural areas and small towns, and so on long drives you should be prepared for either squat toilets or impromptu 'bush stops'.
Roads in Senegal are mostly paved but there can be some dirt roads in the Gambia.
There are a lot of police checkpoints on the roads in the Gambia - tourist vehicles can usually pass through these quickly, but in some cases we may experience delays as the officials check our paperwork. Please note that life jackets are not always available in the parts of Senegal and Gambia which we visit which you should take into consideration if you are afraid of water or don't feel that you are a good swimmer. Though most of the rivers, wetlands we visit are calm there are some faster current areas. A sense of adventure, a sense of humour and a degree of flexibility will be invaluable on this exciting adventure.
Normal group size and age
Normally 5 to 18, plus leader. Minimum age 18.
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together. All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please see our Solo Departures page.
Requires a spirit of adventure and some fitness, as the trip may involve more activities or longer journeys.
Special Interest: For those who have a passion for archaeology, food, flowers, languages or yoga. Solar eclipse and Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) departures and specialist conservation holidays are also included.

Wildlife: Trips may be wholly wildlife focused, or contain an element of wildlife viewing within a less specific itinerary.

Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.
