Frequently Asked Questions

About Your Trip

Is it very basic in Senegal and The Gambia?

In order to get a general view of Senegal and The Gambia some long drives are unavoidable. Roads are mostly paved but may be bumpy in certain parts (as on the way to Dindefelo Waterfalls, where we use a 4WD). A sense of adventure, a sense of humour and a degree of flexibility will be invaluable on this exciting adventure!

Our accommodation in hotels is simple but clean but the facilities do not always work as you might expect them to! Showers may have cold water (only in a few hotels), therefore please leave behind your need for western comforts.

What will Senegalese food be like?

All areas offer good quality local and international meals. A typical meal consists usually of a choice of chicken, fish or beef with rice or vegetables. It is possible to cater vegetarian clients, although please
note that the choice may be limited and it would usually be pasta, omelettes or vegetables. Please advise your sales consultant if you have any special dietary requirements.

What is the Senegalese weather like?

Senegal and Gambia have a tropical climate with a single short rainy season between June and September (during which we do not operate departures as the climate is particularly oppressive). Temperatures are high throughout the year but there is a relatively cooler period from December to April during which rain is very rare.

What is the visa situation for Senegal and Gambia?

Senegal
UK passport holders do not need a visa to enter Senegal for periods of less than three months. Travellers should be aware of reports that European airlines have refused boarding to passengers travelling to Senegal who have not had either a return ticket to leave Senegal within three months or a longer-term Senegalese work/residency permit.
Gambia
There are no entry requirements for British citizens visiting for up to 28 days. For visits in excess of 28 days, permission has to be obtained from the Gambian Immigration Department at their offices in Banjul. Extensions cost D250 for each additional month.

Will I see much wildlife around Senegal?

Still relatively unexplored, Senegal and Gambia offer an incredible variety of landscapes and interesting sites concentrated in a small surface. The wildlife is simply incredible and the area is an absolute paradise for bird lovers: on our boat trips to Djoudj, the Gambia River and the Sine Saloum we encounter countless species such as cormorant, pelican, flamingo, heron and many more. The estimate species which populate Djoudj are approximately 300 and this incredible wetland is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the world.
Our trip offers also the rare priviledge of exploring the beautiful south eastern area of Senegal. On the game drives in Niokolo Koba N.P. we try to spot the wildlife which inhabit the area such as hippos, crocodiles, primates and antelopes before taking a refreshing swim in the magnificent Dindefelo Waterfalls.
