Visas for both countries were easily purchased at the borders so don't worry about getting these in advance.
It would be worth organising to arrive on day 1 of the trip and spend the night in the hotel as per trip notes, where as the group flight arrives on day 2. All of us on the group flight were exhausted and struggling to get through the days activities which didn't make for the best start to the trip.
The campsite we used in the Mara was excellent with en-suite tents and proper beds! It's a shame the trip doesn't finish here as camping her so early on spoiled us, but have been welcomed at the end of the trip!
Kembu Farm Park had the option to upgrade into cottages at reasonable cost. If camping remember to take toilet roll as the long drops didn't have any provided. Surprisingly it was also quite cold here overnight so be prepared. We spent two nights here even though the trip notes say a night is spent in Nakuru park. Our guide said this was something to do with timings the next day, but it was still a shame as I remember really enjoying camping in Nakuru Park on a different trip.
Our group didn't like the 'pleasant spot' on the shore of Lake Victoria as it was next to a noisey bar and didn't feel particularly secure with people hanging around on the beach area just in front of our tents. There was also a loud call to prayer in the morning!
The campsite at the crater was much better than expected from the trip notes with decent showers and toilets which only our group were using. Comparitively the campsite at Snake Park was overcrowded with trucks and had only two cold showers for the women to share!
The campsite at Amboseli was different again with decent toilets but a dribble of a shower! Wet wipes came in useful here!
On the last day before going to the giraffe centre we stopped at a campsite for lunch and to use the showers which were warm and powerful. This was a very welcome stop and lunch was plentiful as all the remaining food needed cooking and eating!
The mattresses provided were a little on the thin side so be prepared for some uncomfortable nights! However this said, the early starts, long days and continual putting up and taking down of tents is tiring and may help you sleep!
Make sure the padlock you take for use in the truck is quite wide as many of us found our padlocks were too small.
Batteries could be charged both on the truck and in the tents at the Mara. Some of the other campsites also had charging options.
A tipping kity of $20/person was set up at the start of the trip and run by the guide. This was great as it meant we didn't have to worry about tips other than for our team of three right at the end.
The trip notes mention Zanzibar but you've probably already spotted that this trip doesn't go there!
The majority of the optional excursions on the trip notes weren't offered so don't worry too much about taking additional money. In fact the only money really needed was for drinks, snacks, souveniers and tips.
