Tripcode: ATK

Countries visited: Turkey

Adult Group Holidays Moderate Special Interest Culture

Itinerary

Day 1
Fly to Dalaman; transfer to Kas.

Day 2
Transfer from hotel with the kayaks to Kalkan Harbour (25 km). Before starting off, we have a safety briefing and do some basic exercises to get used to the kayaks and steering. Once completed, we begin paddling towards Kaputas beach. On arrival we take a break for swimming and lunch. In the afternoon we visit the famous Blue Cave (Mavi Magara) next to Kaputas. After paddling a further 4 or 5 km along the Turquoise Coast we arrive at a pebbly beach where the day's work ends.

Day 3
A free day in Kas. You get the chance to have a go at a whole range of other activities including: diving, canyoning or paragliding. Alternatively you can enjoy the comfort of our hotel and have a full rest day. At 1800 we transfer by boat from Kas Harbour to Ufakdere. Here we set our camp for the night's stay. We take our evening meal on the boat.

Day 4
After breakfast we begin paddling towards the site where the oldest shipwreck in the world was discovered by sponge divers, (now excavated, the Phoenician trading vessel is on display in the Bodrum Maritime Museum). We break for lunch at Uluburun before heading on to Deregemlik Cove. Total paddle approx 12km.

Day 5
We start the paddle towards Aperlai. While we visit the impressive Roman and Byzantine ruins by traversing the narrowest part of the peninsula, the boat takes our kayaks around the long seaside. After lunch we set paddle for our accommodation in Ucagiz. Total paddle approx 6km.

Day 6
After breakfast at the pension we set out by kayak for the famous Tersane Bay on Kekova Island; here we have a swim stop to make the most of this lovely location. Afterwards we paddle over the remains of the sunken city. The harbour walls are still visible, and broken pottery still sits on the sea floor, though this is far from an Atlantis! We continue on heading towards our day's destination at camp in Gökkaya. Total paddle approx 12km.

Day 7
Leaving camp, our first objective is the Pirate's Cave on Asirli Island, a natural sea cave used for many years as a hideout. We have a chance to look around before following the coast back towards Simena. We have lunch here before our last paddle to Ucagiz. Total paddle approx 11km.

Day 8
Fly to London.
