Not too intensive, though not really suitable for complete novices, especially the first day.  There was not enough time to go though the basics with us before we got going because of the long trip.Apart from that a good overall experiance

What a trip. I can't believe how much we saw, did and experienced in just 7 days. A fabulous adventure and the prperfect mix of activity / relaxation.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Although I am sure everything was organised down to the last half an hour, the trip felt fabulously spontaneous and care-free.  Exploring secluded gorges, paddling up to stunning fishing villages only accessible by boat, wandering around deserted Lycian ruined cities, being woken in the night by the sound of snuffling wild boar on the beach - absolutely magical!
What did you think of your group leader?
Our two guides were fab. Hands-off enough that you felt independent, hands-on enough that you felt informed and safe.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Definitely take a snorkel (or buy one in Kas) - you'll definitely want it when you get to the 'Aquarium'.  And if you're sleeping on the boat, it does get a bit chilly (even at the end of August) - so while you probably don't need a sleeping bag as such, you will want something warmish to sleep in; tracky bottoms or the like.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This was my first Exodus trip and I simply can't recommend it enough. It's a very clever recipe; you feel like you're travelling independently, but with the companionship of a group. Yes, you're expected to muck in a bit, yes you'll be roughing it a bit - but that's all part of the appeal!  Go, go go.  You'll have a real adventure.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
feeling like we were the only people left in the world
What did you think of your group leader?
he made us all feel confident and he knew his stuff

mastering the skill of using the paddle is the easy part. being able to paddle for an extended period of time is the challenge - the 'next point' was sometimes 45 minutes away!
Is there anything else you would like to add?

when the trip first started i thought 'there is no way i will be able to paddle every day for such a long time' as my arms and shoulders ached liked they had not ached before, but, my body got used to the ache and the good food that was served and the jokes and sun and beautiful water as well as great company just made it so much fun and i wanted the trip to last for another week!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

One of the highlights of the trip was coming alongside at Ucagiz. This felt like a fairly unspoiled town with tiny streets snaking up the hill through the creamy stone houses. It was baking hot and dusty, I liked the contrast between that and baking hot and wet, which we'd been while kayaking and on the boat!

Another personal favourite was snorkelling and following a little squid, which I'm sure was looking at me as it fluttered off.

What did you think of your group leader?

Ali was always professional, obviously loved being on the water, was a very competent kayaker, and spoke very good english. Although he was sick for some of our trip he kept a smile on his face and made sure we were coping with the day. He was obviously used to groups of english people: our interminable questions, and patient while we dithered about packing dry bags and suncream. I would have liked more input about the history and natural history of the area.I was also rather concerned that we had had no training on emergency situations before we set off on what was a (ridiculously) long first day.

There was another, younger lad who was being trained up as our second guide. Unfortunately, despite being a good kayaker, he was very shy and inexperienced with tourists. I felt he made Ali's work harder, not easier.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Although the Med. is supposed to be a gentle sea, it is a sea and you should think twice about this trip if you have a sensitive stomach or ears. The wind got up to a force 3 the first morning. There was a cross current in the bay and round the headland. Three of us (including me) were seasick the first morning, resulting in one double kayak capsizing. One solo (not me) kayaker had to be transferred into a spare space in a double kayak as she was too ill to continue. Obviously if you are feeling sick, staying on the support boat doesnt bring any relief. The usual seasickness remedies can make you sleepy which is a dangerous state to be in if you are paddling.

However, the scenery is stunning and the repetitivenes of sun, sea, rocks and olive trees is quite soothing. Take a mask and snorkell to get the best out of swim stops, and for fun in the (short) evenings. Take some cards, a head torch, (useful for the cook trying to do a BBQ on the prow!) instruments or games for the evenings. The time spent travelling by kayak and support boat was magical, waking up to the sound - and smell!- of wild goats nipping through the olive groves past your tent, gazing at the Milky Way and zillions of stars, the thick silence at night, we all looked a bit wild with salty hair and bleached shirts, it was great!

You'll need to really enjoy the physical sensation of feeling your arms and stomach working hard for about 4 hours a day, sometimes it's a bit of a slog and there isn't much playful kayaking to be done. I'd have liked a bit more interesting paddling, the Blue Cave only took us about 10 minutes to paddle through.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Note that on the first day you will be paddling about 20 km in unfamiliar climate, environment and with unfamiliar equipment. This first day is the longest for some reason. We were worried we wouldn't be able to keep up. The days got easier and easier after that which seemed back to front.

You should make sure there is proper support for the group leader. The young lad we had was a good kayaker, but would have been unable to take over in an emergency.

Finally, Aisha's cooking on the support boat! This was the best we had, better than the restaurants we visited. How she managed to conjure up a five dish meal for 16 twice a day in such a tiny space was amazing.

Paragliding - Views over Kas were great, really recommend giving this a go if you haven't tried it before. Awesome location with plenty to look at.
What did you think of your group leader?

The guys worked hard, we had a few tricky moments, especially on the first day - we were lucky to have 2 GPs in the group! English wasn't their first language, and only the primary guide spoke "good" English.

There were times where a bit more detail of where we were going/doing would be helpful. We had a briefing in the mornings and evening, but during the activities it wasn't always clear where we were heading (particularly whilst paddling)

Generally the trip ran smoothly, and we were well looked after.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    • Try Kayaking before you go - make sure its right for you.
    • If you have kayaked before, request a Single Kayak it will be more fun.
    • Take a good pair of Beach/Sea shoes - the beaches aren't generally sandy, the pebbles are often red hot and the rocks are sharp. You will need to be able to climb over rocks when landing the kayaks and getting to the camp sites.
    • Take good insect repellent - high percentage deet based stuff worked well for me.
    • You don't need a lot of clothes, but a good hat and rash top is a must if you burn easily.
    • Camping wise - you don't need a sleeping bag - its far too hot for it (June). Good sleep mat is required the ground is hard and rocky.
    • Take a waterproof camera and a means of attaching it to the Kayak so you can't loose it other the side.
    • There is no mains drinking water anywhere on the trip, so bottled water is the only option. Take Rehydration sachets with you and use them for the first couple of days. I used a 2l camelbak on the Kayaks worked well for me.
    • If you are a gadget person, there weren't many places to charge phones etc, the boat had some power - but one of the hotels had working power sockets. So I suggest taking a powerpack with you.
    • I was travelling on my own and I don't drink - £200 spending money worked out perfectly including all additional meals, soft drinks and paragliding.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    Do it...

For me,as I'd never snorkelled before, the spots we snorkelled were really good with lots of fish.and I did the optional diving activity and that too was a definate highlight!
What did you think of your group leader?
Our main group leader Ali was brilliant, was funny had character and knowledge of the areas we went to. And you felt very safe with him out in the sea! We also had a guide Mustafa and he was really good aswell.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
You have to have a love for water!! I would recommend this holiday to anyone.we also saw a lot of ruins etc so although its predominately kayaking there is still a good mix of things happening and going on. Its been my best holiday yet but I'm sure exodus are going to keep raising the bar!!!!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Really good time.made some good friends and am hopefully going to be doing kayaking in England and abroad in the future!

Great, great active holiday, working hard paddling during the day, seeing coastal views you would never otherwise see from land, skimming over ancient ruins - as some coves and inlets only accessible from sea - and then relaxing on the dive boat in with the group, diving off the bows of the boat into clear, turquoise blue water....a real treat!

What did you think of your group leader?
Kept us well briefed, and was very knowledgable about the archeological remains. Made a great effort to ensure we experienced Turkish culture through the lovely food prepared by the boat's Captain/chef. Helped people who were novices in kayaking to gain confidence in open water quickly.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Kayaking/ sailing gloves essential, you put in a lot of kilometres every day and you need to protect your hands from blisters.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would gladly do this trip again, wonderful experience, loved being so close to the water paddling...so restful. Views were great, below the surface of the sea and above. Food was lovely. Wild camping amongst Roman tomb stones was amazing.....or if you prefer not to camp in a graveyard, sleeping on the open deck of the dive boat star-gazing is another option....decisions, decisions.
