I think the first days kayaking was the most testing due to the distance involved the open sea conditions and the lack of experence at that time of the group in general. Add that to the fact that there was no support boat on this day . I think this did compromise the safety of the group at times as it made it difficult for the group leader and assistant to keep control of the group and keep them under observation.
I think this days kayaking would be better placed at the end of the trip when the group would have had more experience and awareness of their own ability.Preferably with the support boat present .And also this would allow people to opt out if they so wished and spend the day relaxing in Kas, .
I realise this may cause a logistical problem and some changes would be required in accommodation arrangement but I feel it would be an improvement on the present format.
And one last point . I think the first day should include some voluntary basic safety training , as like any activity of this type there are inherant risks. This would both build confidence towards the group leader and assistant at an early stage as well as acting as a confidence builder for the group and being a good team building opportunity.
